A spark plug includes a tubular metallic shell, a tubular insulator held in the metallic shell and having an axial hole, a center electrode held at one end of the axial hole, a metallic terminal member held at the other end of the axial hole, and a resistor element disposed between the center electrode and the metallic terminal member in the axial hole and containing glass and an electrically conductive material. The resistor element has a first resistor layer disposed on the center electrode side and closest to the center electrode and containing titanium oxide, and a second resistor layer disposed on the metallic terminal member side in relation to the first resistor layer and whose titanium oxide content is lower than that of the first resistor layer. The titanium oxide content decreases from the center electrode side toward the metallic terminal member side.

Spark plug

A spark plugof the present invention includes an insulatormade from an alumina-based sintered body and including: a leg portionprovided on a front end side; a middle trunk portionprovided on a rear end side of the leg portionand having a larger diameter than the leg portion; and a flange portionprovided on the rear end side of the middle trunk portionand having a larger diameter than the middle trunk portion. In the spark plug, in a state where a cut surfaceobtained by cutting the middle trunk portionin a direction perpendicular to an axial line AX direction at an arbitrary position in the axial line AX direction is mirror-polished, when 20 observation regions X each being 185 μm×250 μm are set so as not to overlap each other, and with respect to each of a plurality of pores included in the 20 observation regions X, a square value P[μm] of a length P [μm] of a circumference of the pore is obtained, an average value of the square values P[μm] of top 20 pores having the largest square values P[μm] is not greater than 2200 μm, and a proportion T [%] of a total area of all pores included in the 20 observation regions X relative to a total area (100%) of the 20 observation regions X is not greater than 5%.

A spark plug includes: a center electrode; an insulator having a through hole around a part of the center electrode; and a metal shell holding the insulator from an outer peripheral side thereof. The metal shell includes a shelf portion that projects radially inward. The insulator includes an engagement portion engaged with the shelf portion from the front side, and a front end portion at the front side with respect to a front end of the metal shell. The front end portion has an outer diameter larger than an inner diameter of the metal shell at the front side with respect to the shelf portion. The front end portion of the insulator has a diameter-enlarged portion at which a diameter of the through hole increases and which is spaced apart from an outer peripheral surface of the center electrode.

In an ignition plug, since a ground electrode is formed in a thin-rod-shape or a mesh-like shape, sufficiently strong radicals are locally generated by a barrier discharge, an anti-inflammation effect by the electrode is small, and the growth of a flame is hardly hindered. Furthermore, by making the thickness dimension of a second dielectric facing a discharge region uniform, the barrier discharge is spread over the surface of the second dielectric, the generation of the radicals is maintained, and combustibility after ignition is promoted. Furthermore, because an end portion of a high voltage electrode and a ground electrode are disposed to face each other within a combustion chamber, a fuel gas introduced into the combustion chamber is liable to flow into the discharge region, and is easily ignited by the radicals generated due to the discharge.

Ignition plug and ignition system including the same

An ignition system that uses a technique capable of restraining radiation of noise caused by discharge of a spark plug in the ignition system. The ignition system includes a spark plug and a power supply section. The spark plug is attached to an engine head. The power supply section has a battery having a ground terminal, and an ignition coil which transforms a voltage of the battery and supplies a transformed voltage to the spark plug. In the ignition system, a metallic shell of the spark plug is fixed to the engine head while being electrically insulated from the engine head through an insulator; an electrically conductive path is connected to the metallic shell; and the electrically conductive path is electrically connected to the ground terminal of the battery while being electrically insulated from the engine head.

Ignition system

A sensor includes a detector element, a connection terminal, and a separator. The contacting portion is in contact with a conductive member so as to overlap the conductive member in a thickness direction, which is a direction of thickness of the detector element between the principal surfaces. The separator includes an element accommodation space that accommodates a portion of an element contact portion and an element back portion, and a partition wall that separates the element accommodation space from a terminal accommodation space that accommodates the contacting portion and a portion of the conductive member and that is adjacent to the element accommodation space in the thickness direction. A frame main body is disposed in an element-side region, which is a region on an element-accommodation-space side in the thickness direction in a region obtained by extending the terminal accommodation space toward the front side in the axial direction.

Sensor

A plasma jet plug includes a rod-shaped central electrode, an insulator having an axial hole, a metal shell disposed around the insulator, an orifice electrode electrically connected to the metal shell and located at a distal end side of the insulator, and a gasket that contacts an outer surface of the insulator and an inner surface of the metal shell. The insulator includes a first member, a second member and an inorganic seal layer. The first member has the axial hole and includes a large-diameter portion and a small-diameter portion. The second member has a through hole into which the small-diameter portion is inserted. The second member has an outer surface that contacts the gasket. The inorganic seal layer seals a gap between the first member and the second member. In a section including the axis, the sum of seal lengths is greater than or equal to 3 mm.

Plasma jet plug

A sensor includes: a detection element; a separator including an insertion portion into which a rear side of the detection element is inserted, and a plurality of terminal housing portions that are disposed surrounding a circumference of the insertion portion around an axial direction, and extend in the axial direction; and a connection terminal that is electrically connected to an electrical connection terminal portion to form a current path. The connection terminal includes a frame body portion and an element contact portion. The sensor further includes a first regulation portion that is located at a position closer to the detection element relative to the frame body portion, in a direction in which a first main surface and a second main surface oppose each other, and regulates the movement of the frame body portion in a direction approaching the detection element.

A gas sensor includes a gas sensor element that extends in an axial direction and that includes a detector, which detects a specific gas in a mixed gas; a metal shell that surrounds a periphery of the gas sensor element to hold the gas sensor element; a base that is disposed on a rear side of the metal shell and that covers a rear end portion of the gas sensor element, the base being made of a polymer material; and a metal tube that connects the metal shell and the base to each other and that includes a rear portion and a front portion, the rear portion being integrated with the base, the front portion forming an exposed portion that is exposed from the base. A part of the exposed portion of the tube is connected to the metal shell, and the base is disposed apart from the metal shell.

Gas sensor and method of manufacturing gas sensor

A method for manufacturing a gas sensor includes: disposing a tubular holder and a tubular compact in a tubular metallic shell defining a through hole, the tubular holder defining a first insertion hole, and the tubular compact defining a second insertion hole; preparing a preliminary assembly in which a pin is inserted into the first insertion hole and the second insertion hole; pulling out the pin from the first insertion hole and the second insertion hole and inserting a sensor element into the first insertion hole and the second insertion hole such that a forward end of the pin will come into contact with an end of the sensor element; compressing the compact to thereby fix the sensor element inside of the metallic shell; welding a protection sleeve to the metallic shell to thereby form a semi-assembly; and combining the semi-assembly with another semi-assembly to thereby form the gas sensor.

Method for manufacturing sensor intermediate product and method for manufacturing sensor

A sensor includes a detector element including a detecting portion and an element back portion on which two or more electrical connection terminal portions are formed; two or more connection terminals which each include an oblong frame main body that extends in an axial direction and an element contact portion that is electrically connected to a corresponding one of the electrical connection terminal portions; a separator that accommodates the connection terminals and the element back portion; and a base that surrounds an outer periphery of the separator. The separator includes a partition wall that is made of a resin material and partitions a plurality of accommodation spaces from each other. The accommodation spaces include an element accommodation space that accommodates portions of the element contact portions and the element back portion, and a plurality of terminal accommodation spaces which each accommodate one of the two or more frame main bodies.

A spark plug includes an insulator, a metal shell surrounding the insulator, a center electrode disposed in the insulator, with a front end thereof exposed outside from the insulator, a ground electrode having a fixed end portion fixed to the metal shell and a free end portion located at a predetermined gap apart from the center electrode, and a coating part formed of noble metal or noble metal alloy so as to cover at least a region of an inner surface of the ground electrode from a first intersection to a second intersection, where the first intersection is an intersection at which an imaginary line extending from an outer circumference of the center electrode intersects the ground electrode; and the second intersection is an intersection at which an imaginary plane extending through a midpoint of the predetermined gap in parallel with the front end intersects the ground electrode.

A tip that contains a noble metal is joined to a joining surface of an electrode base material of a ground electrode via a welded portion. On cross-sections of the tip and the electrode base material in a longitudinal direction of the joining surface, the welded portion has a void above the joining surface, and a continuous distance of the welded portion on the joining surface is less than or equal to 0.5 mm, whereby thermal stress due to a difference in thermal expansion between the tip and the electrode base material can be reduced. A total of continuous distances of the welded portions on the joining surface, are 0.4 times to 0.8 times a length from an end of the tip to another end thereof, whereby joining strength of the welded portion can be assured. Peeling at the tip or falling-off of the tip due to thermal stress can be less likely to occur, whereby durability of the ground electrode can be improved.

A spark plug includes an insulator having a through hole formed in the direction of an axis, a rod-shaped center electrode inserted in the through hole and extending in the direction of the axis, a metal shell disposed around an outer circumference of the insulator, and a ground electrode electrically conducted with the metal shell and adapted to define a gap between the ground electrode and the center electrode. A front end part of the insulator has a front end surface, an outer circumferential surface and a curved surface region formed between the front end surface and the outer circumferential surface. In a cross section including the axis, a front end of an inner circumferential surface of the metal shell faces the curved surface region in a direction perpendicular to the axis. The curved surface region has a curvature radius of 0.2 mm to 0.8 mm.

An ignition plug having a ground electrode that includes a base material layer and an erosion-resistant layer having a thermal conductivity of 40 w/m&#xb7;K or more. The erosion-resistant layer extends at least from the center-electrode-facing portion to a location closer to the fixed end than a front end of the center electrode and 0.2 mm&#x2266;thickness tof the erosion-resistant layer&#x2266;thickness T of the ground electrode&#x2212;0.6 mm is satisfied.
