An optical module that has a structure ensuring reduction in size. The optical module has a structure where a part of a fiber block is protruded from a housing. By including a thin plate, this optical module can avoid entering of dust in the housing, allows a position shift of the fiber block due to a mounting position error of an optical component in the housing, a position shift of an opening portion due to a dimensional error of the housing, or a displacement due to a temperature change, and can reduce the coupling loss due to the optical axis misalignment.

Optical module

An optical circuit board which is mounted with a loop-back circuit for returning aligning light to the fiber array in the vicinity of the fiber array connection end. Since an aligning loop-back circuit can be formed in an optical waveguide pattern, a production cost does not increase in comparison to an optical circuit board of the related art. The aligning light combined from the optical fiber to the aligning port of the optical circuit board is returned to the optical fiber around the loop-back circuit. Therefore, it is possible to perform alignment using the returned light. That is, alignment can be performed while being mounted on a package without installing a light-reflecting film or mirror.

Optical device having a fiber array, and method of alignment thereof

An optical module that is connectable to an optical fiber array and that can be packaged in a high density. Two package modules are mounted on a board, and optical waveguides in a Si photonic lightwave circuit mounted on the package module are connected to an optical fiber array fixed to an optical fiber block. Moreover, output end surfaces of the optical waveguides in the Si photonic lightwave circuit are perpendicular to a mount surface of the package module. The optical waveguides in the Si photonic lightwave circuit may be tilted at an appropriate angle with respect to a direction perpendicular to a right end surface. Moreover, the optical fiber block fixes optical fibers with the optical fibers tilted with respect to a direction perpendicular to an end surface connected to the Si photonic lightwave circuit.

An objective is to provide an integrated optical module which can avoid positional change and separation of a PLC chip when humidity changes. Provided is an integrated optical module characterized in that the integrated optical module includes: a PLC chip; a seat bonded and fixed to part of a lower surface of the PLC chip with an adhesive which is applied to an adhesion surface of the seat; and a support portion supporting the seat, in which a water-repellent treatment portion is provided by masking an upper portion of the support portion with a water-repellent material. The water-repellent treatment portion is provided only around the seat for a predetermined width. The water-repellent treatment portion is provided around the seat for a width of 100 &#x3bc;m or more.

Integrated optical module

An optical transmission device includes an extractor that extracts respective optical signals from optical signals multiplexed from a plurality of optical signals of different wavelengths, a detector that detects wavelengths of the extracted respective optical signals, a storage that stores the wavelengths of the detected respective optical signals, and a processor that is operative to derive trends in wavelength variation of the respective optical signals based on the detected respective optical signals and the respective optical signals stored in the storage, and determines that either one or both of the extractor and the detector cause the wavelengths to be varied when the trends in wavelength variation of two or more wavelengths are the same.

Optical transmission device, optical transmission system and optical transmission method

An optical amplifier includes: a temperature-adjustment-unit that is provided in a wavelength-fixing-unit that fixes a center-wavelength of an excitation-light-source, and adjusts a temperature of the wavelength-fixing-unit, which causes the center-wavelength of the excitation-light-source to vary; a temperature-measurement-unit that measures the temperature of the wavelength-fixing-unit and a temperature of a gain-equalization-unit that equalizes gains of the signal-light on which the Raman amplification is performed using the excitation-light-source; a shift-amount-obtaining-unit that obtains a shift amount data of the center-wavelength of the excitation-light-source from a first-storage-unit and obtains a shift amount of the center-wavelength of the wavelength-band from a second-storage-unit; and a control unit that obtains a temperature-data of the-wavelength-fixing-unit, which corresponds to a difference between two shift amounts that are obtained by the shift amount obtaining unit, from the first-storage-unit, and controls the temperature of the wavelength-fixing-unit based on the obtained temperature-data.

Optical amplifier and optical amplifier control method

An optical communication system, where in an optical transmission apparatus arranged on a transmission side of respective repeating sections, an OSC optical amplifier is provided on an OSC light optical path between from an OSC transmitter to a multiplexer, and the OSC optical amplifier is controlled so that the power of OSC light transmitted on the transmission path becomes a previously set target value. As a result the OSC light is amplified by a different amplifying device to that for the main signal lights at the time of transmission. Therefore even in the case where the span losses are large, OSC light can be reliably received by the optical transmission apparatus on the reception side.

Optical transmission apparatus and optical communication system

The present invention provides an array-type photo module including a filter, which, in each channel, transmits therethrough a portion of emitted light from an incident optical fiber on the opposite side of a gradient-index lens array and reflects another portion of the emitted light from the incident optical fiber toward the gradient-index lens array, and a light-shielding member which is arranged on the opposite side of the filter from the gradient-index lens array, so as to be spaced from the filter and, in each channel, has an opening passing therethrough transmitted light from the filter on the opposite side of the filter. The array-type photo module is easily and inexpensively manufactured, and may be used in a high-density array, with low crosstalk.

There is provided an optical transmission receiver includes an optical switch configured to switch between optical transmission channels, the optical transmission channels being gradually switched from one to the other, an optical amplifier configured to amplify a light propagating in the other of the optical transmission channels which is in a state subsequent to switching, and a switching speed controller configured to control a switching speed of the optical switch based on a level of the light amplified by the optical amplifier.

Optical transmission receiver and method for the same

An optical amplifying device includes a first optical amplifier for amplifying signal light; a second optical amplifier serially connected with the first optical amplifier; an optical device for compensating deterioration of the signal light, the optical device arranged between the first optical amplifier and the second optical amplifier; a variable optical attenuator for attenuating the signal light, the variable optical attenuator arranged between the first optical amplifier and the second optical amplifier; a first automatic level controller for detecting a second amplifier output power and for controlling driving status of the second amplifier in a predetermined output power level; and a first automatic gain controller for detecting an input power of the second optical amplifier and an output power of the second optical amplifier, and for controlling an optical attenuation value of the variable optical attenuator.

Optical amplifying device

An optical module has a structure for reducing the stress applied to a package. The optical module is structured so that an end face of a waveguide () of a planar lightwave circuit () is joined to a plurality of packages () storing therein optical elements so that the waveguide is optically coupled to the optical elements. The optical module includes a housing () storing therein a planar lightwave circuit and a plurality of packages in which an upper face of a protrusion () formed in the bottom section is fixed to the planar lightwave circuit (). Each of the plurality of packages () is electrically connected to an electric part () provided in the housing () via flexible printed circuits ().

An optical amplifier includes a light source that outputs light having an intensity corresponding to a supplied driving power; a modulator that modulates the light output from the light source in response to an input modulation signal; a Raman amplifier that performs Raman amplification on the light modulated by the modulator using a highly-nonlinear medium; and a driver that supplies the driving power to drive the light source and inputs the modulation signal to the modulator. The driver starts inputting the modulation signal to the modulation unit before the intensity of the light propagating through the Raman amplifier exceeds an intensity value at which stimulated Brillouin scattering occurs in the Raman amplifier.

According to an aspect of the embodiment, an optical device has a mirror device having a plurality of mirrors which are able to move, and a mirror interface for adjusting light axis of the each input light in accordance with each position of the mirrors.
