An image forming apparatus includes a transport unit that transports a recording medium along a transport path to a formation area in which an image is formed on the recording medium, an image forming unit that forms the image on the recording medium in the formation area, and a protrusion amount setting unit that sets a protrusion amount of the image protruding from the recording medium to a first protrusion amount in a first case, and sets the protrusion amount to a second protrusion amount larger than the first protrusion amount in a second case where the recording medium is inclined to a transport direction more than the first case.

An image forming apparatus includes plural image holding bodies, plural image writing devices, a movement member, and a retractor. The image holding bodies are arranged in a predetermined direction. The image writing devices face and write images onto the respective image holding bodies. The movement member holds the image holding bodies, is able to be drawn through an opening in a cover of a housing of the image forming apparatus, and is moved in an image holding body arrangement direction. The retractor retracts the image writing devices when the movement member is drawn through the opening. The retractor includes first and second retracting mechanisms. The first retracting mechanism retracts the image writing devices to respective first retracted positions. The second retracting mechanism retracts the image writing devices to respective second retracted positions after the first retracting mechanism has retracted the image writing devices.

An image forming apparatus includes an apparatus housing having an opening and closing door, an attaching body, an image writer, and a guide mechanism. The guide mechanism moves the image writer in conjunction with opening and closing of the opening and closing door, guides the image writer to a write position upon closing the opening and closing door, and guides the image writer to a retracted position upon opening the opening and closing door. The guide mechanism has a first guide mechanism that moves the image writer along a first guide portion provided in the attaching body while the opening and closing door moves from the close position to an intermediate position, and a second guide mechanism that guides the image writer along a second guide portion provided in the apparatus housing while the opening and closing door moves from the intermediate position to the open position.
