An image forming apparatus includes an image forming portion capable of forming a toner image on an envelope including a flap; a stacking portion configured to stack the envelope; a fixing portion configured to fix the toner image on the envelope; a display portion configured to display information; an acquiring portion configured to acquire information corresponding to a kind of the envelope; and a controller configured to control the display portion when a double-side mode is selected, so that a stacking method in which the envelope is stacked on the stacking portion in a state in which an orientation of the envelope is designated on the basis of the information acquired by the acquiring portion is displayed at the display portion.

A fixing device includes a detecting device including a contact portion contacting one end of an endless belt with respect to a widthwise direction, an urging portion for urging the contact portion toward the one end of the endless belt with respect to the widthwise direction, and a sensor for detecting a position of the contact portion. The detecting device detects a position of the endless belt with respect to the widthwise direction depending on an output of the sensor. A displacing device displaces one end of the roller with respect to a longitudinal direction depending on the position of the endless belt detected by the detecting device. Before rotation of the endless belt is started, the displacing device displaces the one end of the roller with respect to the longitudinal direction so that the contact portion moves against an urging force of the urging portion upon the start of rotation.

An image heating apparatus includes a first rotatable member and a second rotatable member configured to form a nip therebetween for heating a toner image on a recording material, a rubbing rotatable member configured to rub a surface of the first rotatable member, and a cleaning brush configured to clean a surface of the rubbing rotatable member. An average interval Sm of pits and projections of the surface of the rubbing rotatable member is 10-20 &#x3bc;m, and the cleaning brush includes fibers each having a diameter of not less than 5 &#x3bc;m and not more than the average interval Sm.

A charging device includes a corona charger, provided with an opening opposing a photosensitive member, for electrically charging the photosensitive member; a sheet-like member provided so that the sheet-like member can cover the opening; a movable device for moving the sheet-like member; and a regulating device for regulating a shape of the sheet-like member so that a central portion of the sheet-like member protrudes toward the corona charger with respect to a circumferential direction of the photosensitive member.

If the positional relationship between the rubbing roller and the contact angle of the belt-like fixing member is changed by inclination of the steering roller, it is always possible for the rubbing roller to abut on the range where the belt-like fixing member is wrapped. As a result, it is possible to maintain uniform surface roughness for the fixing member surface layer, allowing the recording material to maintain evenness in the gloss.

An image heating device includes a belt, a wire stretched from one widthwise end to the other widthwise end of the belt near a peripheral surface of the belt, a moving member movably fixed to one end of the wire, a biasing member, a detection unit, and a control unit. The belt heats an image on a sheet. The biasing member biases the moving member. The detection unit detects, from a biasing force of the biasing member provided when the wire is cut, that the moving member is moved. The control unit controls, according to an output of the detection unit with regard to detecting that the moving member is moved, whether or not to prohibit an image heating process.

A corona charger conventionally includes a sheet-like shutter and a holding member configured to hold an end of the shutter, and the replacement of a charging electrode is difficult. To solve this problem, the holding member configured to hold the end of the shutter is set to be movable along the longitudinal direction of a shield to a winding member of the shutter more than a supporting member configured to replaceably support the charging electrode.

A charging device includes a corona charger for electrically charging a photosensitive member; a sheet-like member for covering and uncovering an opening of the corona charger; a regulating member for regulating a shape of the sheet-like member so that the sheet-like member is convex toward the corona charger with respect to a circumferential direction of the photosensitive member; and a winding-up member, including a winding-up shaft around which the sheet-like member is to be wound up, for winding up the sheet-like member so that a surface of the sheet-like member opposing the corona charger is directed toward a winding-up center of the winding-up shaft when the sheet-like member is wound up by the winding-up shaft.

The developer replenishment apparatus includes a first developer container for accommodating the developer for replenishment, a first conveyance member disposed in the first developer container to discharge the developer for replenishment through a first opening of the first developer container, a second developer container for receiving the developer for replenishment discharged from the first opening, an agitating member disposed in the second developer container to agitate the developer for replenishment, a second conveyance member disposed in the second developer container to discharge the developer for replenishment through a second opening of the second developer container toward the developing apparatus, and a driving device which does not drive the second conveyance member but drives the agitating member when driving the first conveyance member. The bulk density of the developer is thereby stabilized to make possible replenishment with the developer at high accuracy.

Developer replenishment apparatus

An image reading apparatus reads an image from a document being simultaneously fed by the apparatus. A document feeder unit feeds the document on a original plate. A first image reading unit reads an image from the fed document at a first document-read position on the original plate. A second image reading unit reads an image from the fed document at a second document-read position located at a predetermined distance from the first document-read position in a document feeding direction. An abnormal pixel detection unit detects abnormal pixels resulting from rubbish moved between the first document-read position and second document-read position on the original plate together with the document.
