The present invention relates to a glass plate for a substrate contains, as a glass matrix composition, in mol % on the oxide basis, SiO: 67 to 72, AlO: 1 to 7, BO: 0 to 4, MgO: 11 to 15, CaO: 0 to 3, SrO: 0 to 3, BaO: 0 to 4, ZrO: 0 to 4, NaO: 8 to 15, and KO: 0 to 7, with SiO+AlO: 71 to 77, MgO+CaO+SrO+BaO: 11 to 17, NaO+KO: 8 to 17, and satisfying KO/(NaO+KO)&#x2266;0.13&#xd7;(SiO+AlO+0.5BO+0.3BaO)&#x2212;9.4, in which the glass plate has a &#x3b2;-OH value (mm) of 0.05 to 0.5, and a heat shrinkage ratio (C) of 16 ppm or less.

Alkali-free glass and method for producing same

A process for producing a glass substrate, which includes forming molten glass obtained by melting raw materials into a glass ribbon in a float bath, annealing the glass ribbon by a cooling apparatus, and cutting the glass ribbon to form the glass substrate, where the hydrogen concentration in the atmosphere of a float bath exceeds 3%, and the glass retention time in the float bath is from 4 to 15 minutes.

A color cathode ray tube having a panel glass and a funnel glass sealed with a composition comprising a low melting glass containing PbO as the main component, wherein the sealed portion is such that the weight reduction after being immersed in water at 90.degree. A hermetic sealing composition comprising 100 parts by weight of a basic composition consisting of from 80 to 99.9 wt % of a crystalline low melting glass powder containing lead and boron and from 0.1 to 20 wt % of a low expansion ceramic filler, and from 0.001 to 1.0 part by weight, in total, of at least one of an .alpha.-4PbO.B.sub.2 O.sub.3 crystal powder and a Pb.sub.3 O.sub.4 powder, incorporated to the basic composition, the thermal expansion coefficient of the sealing composition after firing being from 80.times.10.sup.-7 to 105.times.10.sup.-7 /.degree.C. within a range of from room temperature to 300.degree. C.
