Provided is an exposure apparatus including a transporting section; a first polarized light output section that outputs first polarized light; a second polarized light output section that outputs second polarized light; a first mask section that has formed therein a first aperture section that passes the first polarized light for exposing an orientation film and blocks the first polarized light; and a second mask section that has formed therein a second aperture section that passes the second polarized light for exposing the orientation film and blocks the second polarized light. The first aperture section and the second aperture section are formed to expose a certain region of the orientation film in an overlapping manner.

A three-dimensional image display apparatus includes: an image output unit that outputs image light that has a particular polarization, the image output unit having: a retaining substrate including a transparent glass; an optical element retained by the retaining substrate; and a resin polarizing plate pasted with a first adhesive layer on a side of the retaining substrate opposite to a side where the optical element is retained; and a retarder that is pasted onto the polarizing plate with a second adhesive layer and has: a transparent resin base; and a plurality of phase retarding parts that are provided on the resin base and output the image light as mutually differently polarized light, the image light having been incident on the plurality of phase retarding parts, wherein the second adhesive layer is as hard as or harder than the first adhesive layer.

A light diffraction element comprising a transparent substrate and a first orientation layer that is formed on one surface of the substrate and includes anisotropic polymers and a first pattern of an orientation direction arranged periodically in a first direction along the primary plane of the substrate. The first pattern includes three or more small regions that are arranged in the first direction and in which the orientation direction of the polymers included in the first orientation layer are different from each other, and generates diffracted light as a result of interference between light passed respectively through the three or more small regions.

A manufacturing method of a three-dimensional image display apparatus including an image display section and a retarder is provided. The manufacturing method includes attaching an adhesion sheet containing a curable resin to at least one of an exit surface of the image display section and an entrance surface of the retarder, layering the retarder on the image display section such that the entrance surface of the retarder faces the exit surface of the image display section, applying a resin onto a periphery portion of the image display section and onto a periphery portion of the retarder, adhering together the periphery portions by curing the resin applied to the periphery portions, and adhering together the image display section and the retarder by curing the resin between the image display section and the retarder, after adhering together the periphery portions.

Manufacturing method of three-dimensional image display apparatus

It is aimed to reduce the occurrence of crosstalk attributable to the thermal expansion/contraction of a retarder and an image display section, and the unevenness in color attributable to the uneven surfaces of the retarder and the image display section. It is also aimed to reduce the misalignment of the retarder with respect to the image display section. The exit surface of an image display sectionand the entrance surface of a retarderare adhered to each other by using an adhesion layer. Additionally, the left and right edges of the image display sectionare adhered to the left and right edges of the retarderby using adhesion regions.
