A magnetic head comprising a magnetic core 1, a slider 2 constructed of a non-magnetic ceramic, a supporting plate 3 made of a metal which securely bonds the slider 2, and one or more grooves 4 formed in the surface of the supporting plate 3 which bonds the slider 2. The grooves 4 absorb or moderate warping stress exerted on the supporting plate 3 due to difference in the thermal expansion coefficients of the slider 2 and the supporting plate 3 to prevent warping deformation of the supporting plate 3, thus preventing distortion of the slider 2. This allows maintenance of the flatness of the top surface 2a of the slider 2, prevention of spacing loss, and recording and reproduction with a high degree of reliability.

A magnetic head slider assembly for a magnetic recording and reproducing apparatus. A first slide surface and a second slide surface, which are comparatively wide, are formed on the surface of the assembly which will face a recording medium. A first air groove intervenes between the first and second slide surfaces. Part of the first slide surface is formed by a magnetic core. A third slide surface adjoins the first slide surface via a second air groove at the side opposite to the first air groove. The third slide surface is slightly remoter from the medium than the first and second slide surfaces.

End faces of the opposite ends of an FPC for connecting a movable magnetic head and a stationary electric circuit to each other are supported parallel to the plane of a recording medium and in the substantially same plane. The height of the FPC when it is flexed and twisted can be further reduced by forming a slot or slots longitudinally in the FPC and/or by forming a repeat or repeats of an S shape on the FPC. The height of the FPC upon flexing and twisting can be further reduced by bending the opposite side portions of an intermediate portion of the FPC between the end faces longitudinally. If the vertical spacing of the FPC which is flexed by movement of the magnetic head is reduced in this manner, a device of miniaturized thickness and volume can be constructed.

A floppy disk drive having a driving section provided with a spindle motor and a linear pulse motor includes a primary rail member (7) which determines a direction of movement of a reciprocating moving member (13) of the linear pulse motor and which has a plurality of V-shaped reference point cut-outs (8a, 8b) which serve as guides for reference pins (17, 18) of a jig. The spindle motor and the linear pulse motor are carried by a motor base (3) which has a plurality of holes (4a, 4b) for receiving the reference pins (17, 18). These pins are long enough to extend into the cut-outs. The holes (4a, 4b) have inner diameters which are larger than the outer diameters of the reference pins for enabling the motor base to be moved and adjusted. The arrangement enables an assembly of a floppy disk drive with high precision.

A magnetic head device incorporated in magnetic recording and playback equipment for recording and reproducing information from a magnetic disk. The device has a magnetic head which is formed with a plurality of grooves in the surface thereof that is to face a magnetic disk. The grooves reduce the friction acting between the head and the disk during operation and thereby allows the head to slide on the disk stably with a minimum of spacing loss.

The structure of a magnetic head for use in a disk drive has an erase core and a read/write core which are inclined to a track of a floppy disk or disket. An erase gap and a read/write gap formed in the erase core and read/write core, respectively, each is inclined by a different angle to the longitudinal axis of the magnetic head. A shield plate is interposed between the two cores for magnetically shielding them from each other. With this configuration, the magnetic head reduces crosstalk ascribable to flux picked up by the erase core from the track.

A dual magnetic head capable of reducing unneccessary magnetic flux developed in erase cores. The dual magnetic head includes a first read/write core (30) having a first gap width (34) and extending in a track direction in which the tracks will be formed on a magnetic recording medium, a second read/write core (10) having a second read/write gap (14) with a width greater than the first gap width, and juxtaposed to the first read/write core (30) in a perpendicular direction to the track direction; and an erase core (20) having a pair of erase gaps (24, 25) located at opposite ends of the second read/write gap (14) with respect to the perpendicular direction, the erase core (20) being juxtaposed to the first read/write core (30) in the perpendicular direction and juxtaposed to the second read/write core (10) in the track direction, at least one of the facing surfaces of the erase core (20) which define the erase gaps (24, 25) therebetween being provided with an undulation. The undulation can be in the form of either a saw-tooth-like section or a waveform-like section.

A magnetic transducer assembly for cooperating with a relatively moving magnetic recording medium to magnetically record and reproduce information on and from the magnetic recording medium. The transducer assembly comprises first and second magnetic transducers incorporated into one rail of a double-rail type slider with they are adjacent to each other. The rail has a contacting surface with a recording surface of the recording medium in recording and reproducing. The first magnetic transducer includes a first read/write core assembly having a first magnetic gap extending in directions normal to the moving direction of the recording medium and placed in a plane including the contacting surface of the rail. The second magnetic transducer includes a second read/write core assembly having a second magnetic gap which is different in length from the first magnetic gap and extends in directions normal to the moving direction thereof. The second magnetic gap is positioned in the plane including the contacting surface thereof and arranged so that its longitudinal axis is on an extension line of the longitudinal axis of the first magnetic gap.

Magnetic recording transducer assembly with two gaps of different length

A magnetic transducer head assembly comprises a pair of magnetic core halves of generally C-shaped configuration and a coil wound on one of the core halves. The limbs of the C of each core half is in abutment relationship with those of the other core half to define a medium-contacting face and a magnetic gap on the medium-contacting face. The magnetic gap includes an inner gap section and outer gap sections respectively disposed on opposite ends of the inner gap section. Each of the outer gap sections has a gap length much greater than the gap length of the inner gap section and is in the shape of a meandering configuration which is formed by a series of crests on one of the core halves and a series of troughs on the other core half. The tips of the crests of each core half lie on an imaginary plane which is aligned or retracted from a plane defined by the inner gap section.
