A method of transferring data through a bus includes the steps of: occupying the bus by a first device serving as a bus master; transferring a first predetermined number of data items of all data items to be transferred while the first device is occupying the bus; determining if the first predetermined number of data items have been transferred; determining if the first device should release the bus based on whether or not there is a request from a second device after it is determined that the first predetermined number of data items have been transferred; and releasing the bus by the first deice when it is determined that the first device should release the bus.

Apparatus and method of partially transferring data through bus and bus master control device

Stable playback performance is assured and data loss due to out-of-step synchronization is reduced even when playback signal quality deteriorates due to such cause as a recording medium defect. The playback method applies to a recording medium to which data is recorded in block units containing multiple fixed-length frames together with block address information. The data and the block address information are acquired from the recording medium. The recording position of each frame in a block is then predicted from the acquired block address information. Synchronization is then set to the frame level based on the acquired data, and the memory address for storing the acquired data is determined based on the predicted recording position. The acquired data is then stored at the determined memory address.

Playback method, playback control circuit and playback apparatus for a recording medium

Data is read from a recording medium and the reproduced data is deinterleaved and stored to a first memory while input/output to/from the first memory is arbitrated. It is determined whether a predetermined number of data units is stored to the first memory. Based on the result data, it is determined whether transfer of the data stored in first memory to a second memory is permitted. If data transfer is permitted, the reproduced data is transferred from the first memory to the second memory, during which time input/output to/from the second memory is arbitrated. The reproduced data stored to the second memory is then error corrected, and user data contained in the error corrected reproduction data is externally output from the second memory.

An error correcting apparatus includes a storing means for storing product code with n,rows and n,columns, an error correcting unit,that performs error correction for four code sequences simultaneously in parallel, and a bus control unit,for reading codes on four rows from the buffer memory,and transferring the codes to the error correcting unit,. The bus control unit,reads and transfers four consecutive codes on each of four rows in order before shifting the reading position by four codes in the row direction.
