A navigation device which stores a captured image of an area ahead of user in a moving direction after turning at an intersection and displays the captured image before turning at the intersection, includes: a first storage unit (HDD recording/playback unit) storing a map; a display unit (display unit); and a control unit (control unit) displaying the map on the display unit, and the navigation device further includes a second storage unit (HDD recording/playback unit) storing a captured image of an area to be entered after a turn is made at an intersection, and the control unit displays the captured image stored in the second storage unit on the display unit before a mobile body reaches the intersection.

Navigation device and image management method

A navigation apparatus includes notification means for notifying an advance direction at a branching point in a route guiding, storage means for storing a plurality of moving methods and notification methods corresponding to the respective moving methods, input means for selecting one of the plurality of moving methods stored in the storage means, and control means for causing the notification means to perform notification by the notification method corresponding to the moving method selected by the input means. Thus, it is possible to easily set a route guiding such as a distance to the branching point where guiding is started for each of the moving methods and a sound volume.

Navigation apparatus

A navigator receives, through communication with a server, only such map information or locality information as is considered to be necessary, and stores it by overriding with it already used map information and locality information. Thus, the navigator, despite having a small storage capacity, is free from interruption of display. Receiving minimum needed information helps save the communication charge.

The present invention is directed to a navigation apparatus capable of performing a proper voice guidance even in such a case that signals transmitted from GPS satellites cannot be received, but a current location cannot be judged. The navigation apparatus of the present invention is featured by such a navigation apparatus in which signals transmitted from GPS satellites are received so as to measure a current location, the measured current location is displayed on a screen in connection with a map, a guidance route up to a destination place is set, and a guidance is notified every predetermined guidance point. In this navigation apparatus, when the signals transmitted from the GPS satellites cannot be received, if a current location is located on the guidance route, then a virtual current location is displayed in such a manner that the virtual current location is moved on the guidance route at a predetermined speed, and a guidance is notified every predetermined guidance point.

Navigation system

Navigation apparatus has a controller that performs map-matching in which present position detected by a position detector is checked against a road on a map. When a road on which the present position lies is found, the controller causes the apparatus to display a name of the road. When a road on which the present position lies is not found, the controller causes the apparatus to display area information indicative of the present position.

In a navigation device, the map information read by a map information reproduction device is displayed on the display device, and an intersection which the vehicle approaches is enlarged. The enlarged display of an intersection is continued if the speed of the vehicle is not more than a predetermined value even when the disk is moving away from the intersection. A place at which the classification of road changes may be treated like an intersection. An exclusion key may be provided for designating, during simulation, an intersection to be excluded from the enlarged display. During simulation, the vehicle may be slowed, or stopped when it is near an intersection to permit full examination. A multi-disk reproduction device may be used to selectively reproduce map information from a first disk for storing map information of a first area, and a second disk for storing map information of a second area. If, in the state in which the first disk is selected, the vehicle moves to the second area, the disk storing map information of the second area is automatically selected.
