A secondary side controller configured to determine a peak voltage and/or a frequency of a secondary side winding of a power supply converter over a predetermined period of time, wherein, when the converter is in the burst mode, the secondary side controller is configured to instruct a primary side controller to increase the set point, such that the primary side controller operates in the standard mode to increase the converted output voltage, the secondary side controller determining the peak voltage and/or the frequency of the secondary side winding while the primary side controller is operating the converter in the standard mode.

An LED power supply, comprising: a power factor correction circuit configured to receive an input signal and provide a DC bus voltage across a DC bus; a converter configured to receive the DC bus voltage and to output a DC output voltage for powering at least one LED, wherein the converter comprises a high-side transistor, wherein the high-side transistor is OFF when the LED power supply is in standby; a voltage sensor being configured to output a voltage sensor output; and a controller configured to receive the voltage sensor output and to output a control signal according to the voltage sensor output, wherein the voltage sensor is positioned in series with the output of the high-side transistor, such that, when the high-side transistor is ON, the voltage sensor output is proportional to the DC bus voltage, and when the transistor is OFF, the voltage sensor is disconnected from the DC bus.

A device, system, and method configure a power supply of a powered device. The powered device includes a digital addressable lighting interface (DALI) connected to a load to be powered by a power source. The powered device includes an isolator. The powered device includes a controller positioned on a primary side of the isolator. The controller is configured to generate a first signal to select whether to provide power to theDALI at a zero current value or a maximum current value. The controller is further configured to generate a second signal to provide power to the DALI at a selected current value between the zero current value and the maximum current value.

Power supply configuration across isolation barrier

A device, system, and method protect circuits of a lighting device. The lighting device includes a current source generating a current and a first load and a second load receiving the current. The lighting device includes an inductor positioned between the current source and the first and second loads that balances the current powering the first and second loads. The lighting device includes a detector monitoring a voltage peak of the first 5 and second loads. The lighting device includes a voltage controller receiving a reading of the voltage peak from the detector and determining when the voltage peak is at least a voltage peak threshold. The voltage controller is configured to adjust a setting for the current generated by the current source based on the reading of the voltage peak.

Class 2 circuit protection

An isolated converter has a transformer with a primary winding (in a primary side circuit) and a secondary winding magnetically coupled to the primary winding. A first Y-capacitor is electrically connected between the primary side circuit and the secondary winding. The detection circuit is for detecting information at the primary side, preferably information about the input supply received at the input, and more preferably the information is that whether the input supply is an alternating current (AC) supply or a direct current (DC) supply, and the detection circuit includes the first Y-capacitor. The detection circuit enables the detected information to be provided directly to a secondary side controller, without needing opto-isolators or other isolated data transmission. The detection circuit () comprises a capacitor divider comprising the first Y-capacitor (C), and further comprising a second impedance and a third capacitor (C) connected in series with the first Y-capacitor (C), with the first Y-capacitor (C), the second impedance, and the third capacitors (C, C, C) in series between a primary side ground (PGND) and the input (), wherein the detection circuit is for detecting a voltage across a second impedance to obtain a signal indicating the information at the primary side. Preferably the second impedance comprises a second capacitor (C).

Isolated converter and led driver using the isolated converter

A method for detecting error on an input/output (IO) pin of an integrated circuit includes using the input/output pin of the integrated circuit in a first mode by receiving or sending a first value as analog data or digital data. The input/output pin is toggled in a test mode after each instance of using the input/output pin in the first mode. The test mode includes providing a second value disparate from the first value during a set time after using the input/output pin in the first mode, receiving back during the set time a resulting value based on providing the second value, measuring the resulting value, and identifying an error on the input/output pin of the integrated circuit based on the measured resulting value.

A power supply system for a lighting unit, comprises a driver, a local energy storage device and a converter. The converter implements a first, charging mode, mode by connecting to the output of said driver for diverting at least a part of the driving current from the lighting unit to charge the energy storage device, a second, battery driving, mode by connecting to the lighting unit for converting the local energy storage device power supply to drive the lighting unit, and a third, grid driving, mode to neither charge the energy storage device nor convert the secondary power supply. The converter and the driver are controlled actively and synchronously to maintain the current through the lighting unit when switching the converter between modes.

Lighting power supply system and method

An LED board comprises an arrangement of LEDs, a current sensor for sensing a current flowing through the arrangement of LEDs and a cut-off switch in series with the arrangement of LEDs. The cut-off switch is controlled in dependence on the sensed current. In this way, over-current protection is provided at the LED board level, without needing any signal communication between the LED board and the LED driver.

LED arrangement with over-current protection

A lighting driver () receives an AC Mains voltage (), employs a rectifier () to produce a rectified voltage, and supplies an output current () to a lighting device () in response to the rectified voltage. A surge protection circuit () of the lighting driver includes a voltage clamping device (MOV) connected across the output of the rectifier, and a differentiator circuit () configured to differentiate between a temporary voltage spike at the input to the rectifier and a loss of neutral connection to the lighting driver. When a temporary voltage spike is detected, the voltage clamping device is activated to clamp the rectified voltage until the temporary voltage spike ends. When a loss of neutral is detected, the voltage clamping device is latched into a disabled state until the AC Mains voltage input to the lighting driver is turned off.

Method of lighting driver protection in case of loss of neutral connection, and lighting driver including such protection

A light emitting diode (LED) apparatus is provided for driving a plurality of LED lamps (in parallel. The light emitting diode apparatus includes at least one LED driver circuit to provide a LED driving current for the plurality of LED lamps. The LED driver circuit includes a current setting resistance circuit for setting a maximum value of the LED driving current and a detection circuit to detect presence or absence of each of the plurality of LED lamps by detection of the current flowing through each of the LED lamps. The detection circuit adjusts the current setting resistance circuit based on the detection of presence or absence and the current setting resistance circuit includes a plurality of setting resistors and a plurality of transistors.

An electronic ballast with power thermal cutback including an electronic ballast operably connected to provide power to a lamp, the electronic ballast having a PFC converter (HO) operable to receive a PFC input voltage () and operable to provide a DC bus voltage on a DC bus (); a DC/AC converter () operable to receive the DC bus voltage from the DC bus () and to provide AC power () to the lamp () at an AC output frequency; a compensator () responsive to an electronic ballast condition parameter, the compensator () being operable to provide a compensator signal to at least one of the PFC converter () and the DC/AC converter (). At least one of the PFC converter () and the DC/AC converter () is responsive to the compensator signal to reduce the power to the lamp () when the electronic ballast condition parameter passes a threshold.

The PFC converter () also includes an inductor () having a plurality of auxiliary windings () coupled to the voltage rectifier circuit () and the voltage regulator circuit (). One of the auxiliary windings () is arranged to supply a start up voltage (V), during a start up stage, using the voltage rectifier circuit () to the voltage regulator circuit ().
