An axial gap type rotating machine that provides high productivity at low cost and high performance is presented. Specifically, an axial gap type rotating machine comprising: in a housing, a rotating shaft; at least two rotors comprising at least two rotor cores being rotatable together with the rotating shaft as a central axis and being disposed perpendicular to the rotating shaft with an interval along the rotating shaft, and at least two permanent magnets and at least two soft magnetic members arranged in a predetermined configuration; and at least one stator comprising a soft magnetic or nonmagnetic stator core and a coil wound on the stator core, wherein the at least one stator is fixed to the housing and disposed in a gap between the at least two rotors.

A method for assembling a rotor used in connection with an interior permanent magnet (IPM) rotary machine, the rotor having an axis of rotation and comprising a rotor yoke having bores and a plurality of permanent magnet segments disposed in the bores of the rotor yoke, each permanent magnet segment consisting of a plurality of magnet pieces. The method comprises the steps of: inserting the plurality of magnet pieces in each bore of the rotor yoke, with each of the magnet pieces for each of the magnet segments being kept loose from each other, for axially stacking the magnet pieces in the bore, and fixedly securing the stacked magnet pieces in the bore of the rotor yoke.

A method for assembling rotors which is applicable to a large axial gap type permanent magnet rotating machine is provided. A permanent magnet rotating machine comprising: a rotating shaft; at least two rotors comprising a table-like structure and permanent magnets attached thereto, the table-like structures being connected to the rotating shaft and being disposed in an axial direction of the rotating shaft; and a stator comprising a table-like structure and stator coils around which a copper wire is wound, said stator being disposed in a gap formed by the rotors so that the stator being separated from the rotating shaft, is manufactured by the following steps of: assembling the two rotors such that a predetermined gap is formed therebetween; and mounting the magnets on the table-like structures by inserting the magnet from the radially outer side of the table-like structures towards the center of the rotation with the assembled state being maintained.

A rotor adapted for a large permanent magnet rotating machine having high output and demagnetization resistance and the permanent magnet rotating machine are provided. When a rare earth magnet block is cut or ground by a cutting or grinding tool, a jig is used for holding the magnet block in place. The jig comprises a base, a pair of metal support members disposed on opposite sides of the base and provided with grooves, and rubber rods received in the support member grooves such that the rubber rod partially protrudes from the groove and abuts on the groove bottom. The magnet block is rested on the base and clamped between the rubber rods. The volume of the groove is larger than the volume of the rubber rod.

An interior permanent magnet (IPM) rotary machine comprises a rotor comprising a rotor yoke having bores and a plurality of permanent magnet segments disposed in the bores of the rotor yoke, each permanent magnet segment consisting of a plurality of magnet pieces. The rotor is assembled by inserting the plurality of unbound magnet pieces in each bore for stacking the magnet pieces, and fixedly securing the stacked magnet pieces in the bore.

A magnet holding jig comprises a platform and first and second holders disposed on opposite sides of the platform. The platform is provided with channels, the holders are comb-shaped to define digits and slits, the channels and the slits being aligned to define guide paths for permitting entry of a cutting tool therein, and the holders are also configured as digitate hooks. The holder hooks are in contact with a rare earth magnet block resting on the platform. The holders are pushed inward at their lower portions so as to elastically deform the digitate hook and move it backward and to bring the hook digits in pressure abutment with the magnet block, thereby holding the magnet block in place on the platform.

A magnet holding jig comprises a platform and first and second holders disposed on opposite sides of the platform. The platform is provided with channels, the holders are comb-shaped to define digits and slits, the channels and the slits being aligned to define guide paths for permitting entry of a cutting tool therein, and the holders are also configured as digitate hooks. The holder hooks are in contact with a rare earth magnet block resting on the platform. The holders are pushed inward at their lower portions so as to bring each hook digit of the second holder in pressure abutment with the magnet block at a higher level than each hook digit of the first holder for thereby holding the magnet block in place on the platform.

A permanent magnet rotating machine includes a rotating shaft and two end rotors. The rotating shift includes at least one inner rotor capable of rotating integrally with the rotating shaft, and being arranged in the space formed by the two end rotors so as to be separate from the two end rotors, and at least two stators isolated from the rotation of the rotating shaft, and being arranged in the spaces formed by the end rotors and the inner rotor. The end and inner rotor permanent magnets are arranged at equal intervals at the end and inner rotating disks; and the three or more stator coils are arranged circumferentially at equal intervals in the concentric circles of each of the fixed disks so as to face the two or more concentric circles of the end and inner permanent magnets on which the permanent magnets are arranged on the rotating disks.
