An optical incoupling element () provided in the form of a discrete item attachable on a lightguide () is provided, comprising a substrate (A) and at least one three-dimensionally formed optical surface (). The optical surface () is configured to incouple light incident thereto and to adjust direction of the incoupled light transmitted through an optical contact surface () established at an interface between the element substrate (A) and a lightguide medium () such, that the incoupled light acquires a propagation path through a lightguide medium () via a series of total internal reflections. The optical surface () may comprise at least on optical cavity pattern (). The element () is configured to receive light onto said at least one three-dimensionally formed optical surface () from a direction essentially parallel to a longitudinal plane of the planar lightguide (). A method for manufacturing the optical incoupling element (), related arrangement, optical unit () and uses are further provided.

Light incoupling element, related method and uses

A lightguide component for illumination devices having first and second exit surfaces at opposite sides, the lightguide component including: a light-receiving portion to receive light emitted from a light source; a lightguide layer having a first principal face at the first exit surface side and a second principal face at the second exit surface side; and a light distribution controlling structure having a plurality of internal spaces. Each of the plurality of internal spaces includes a first slope to direct a portion of light propagating in the lightguide layer toward the first exit surface via total internal reflection, and a second slope at an opposite side from the first slope, and the lightguide component is configured to emit first light having a first intensity distribution through the first exit surface and to emit second light having a second intensity distribution through the second exit surface.

A lighting device that can ensure task productivity while reducing the glare is provided herein. The lighting device has a light source; and a light guiding part including a light guiding panel and configured to guide light that is emitted from the light source. The light guiding panel includes: a light incident end surface that is situated facing the light source, the light incident end surface being a surface on which the light emitted from the light source is incident; a first light emitting part that is included in an opposite end from the light incident end surface, and that emits the light guided inside the light guiding panel; and a second light emitting part that is included in a predetermined main surface of the light guiding panel that intersects with the light incident end surface, and that emits the light guided inside the light guiding panel.

Lighting device

An optical deflection tape () attachable on a lightguide () is provided, comprising a substrate (A) and at least one pattern () formed with a number of periodic pattern features () embedded in the substrate (A) and configured as optically functional cavities () filled with a material having a refractive index different from the refractive index of the material of the substrate (A) surrounding the cavity (). The pattern () is configured to adjust direction of light received thereto such, that light incident at the pattern () is deflected to acquire a propagation path through a lightguide medium () via a series of total internal reflections and, by virtue of said at least one pattern (), the optical deflection tape () is configured to control distribution of light propagating through the lightguide (). A method for manufacturing the tape () and related uses are further provided.

Light deflection tape, related method and uses

A desktop illumination device includes a light source; and a light guide including a light guide plate. The light guide plate has a light incident surface and first and second main surfaces. An angle at which an intensity becomes maximum in a light distribution of light emitted from the first main surface is in a range of −90° or more to less than 0°, in a case where an axis passing through a center of the first main surface and perpendicular to an installation surface is defined as a vertical axis, and in a plane including the vertical axis and perpendicular to the installation surface, a direction parallel to the installation surface is defined as vertical 0°, an upward angle with respect to the vertical 0° is defined as a positive angle, and a downward angle with respect to the vertical 0° is defined as a negative angle.

A semiconductor light-emitting element includes a substrate and a semiconductor stack portion provided on the substrate and having at least a first-conductivity-type semiconductor layer, a light-emitting layer, and a second-conductivity-type semiconductor layer. The substrate has a property to allow transmission of light from the light-emitting layer, and has a hexahedral shape including a first surface on which a semiconductor stack portion is provided, a second surface located opposite to the first surface, a pair of third surfaces orthogonal to the first surface and the second surface, and a pair of fourth surfaces orthogonal to the first surface and the second surface and different from the pair of third surfaces.

In a nitride semiconductor light-emitting device having an n-side and a p-side electrode pad formed on the same side of a substrate wherein current distribution in the light-emitting device is improved by forming branch electrodes extended from the p-side electrode pad (and the n-side electrode pad), when sheet resistance values of n-side and p-side layers in the device are low enough, contact resistance between a p-type nitride semiconductor layer and a current diffusion layer of a transparent conductive film formed thereon is reduced and in-plane distribution of the sheet resistance is made uniform whereby improving the optical output, by increasing in a prescribed condition the sheet resistance value of the current diffusion layer.

Nitride semiconductor light-emitting device and production method thereof

A nitride semiconductor light-emitting device includes a nitride semiconductor light-emitting element, a package substrate and an optically transparent resin sealing portion. The nitride semiconductor light-emitting element includes a substrate, a nitride semiconductor multilayer portion having a light-emitting layer and a protective layer. The nitride semiconductor multilayer portion is provided on the substrate. The protective layer is provided on an upper portion of the nitride semiconductor multilayer portion. The resin sealing portion seals the nitride semiconductor light-emitting element that is mounted on the package substrate. An air gap layer is formed in at least one of an area between the substrate and the light-emitting layer in the nitride semiconductor light-emitting element, an area between the light-emitting layer and the protective layer in the nitride semiconductor light-emitting element and an area in the package substrate.
