A precursor composition of a gel electrolyte is provided, which includes (1) meta-stable nitrogen-containing polymer, (2) gelling promoter, (3) carbonate compound, and (4) metal salt. The (1) meta-stable nitrogen-containing polymer is formed by reacting (a) nitrogen-containing heterocyclic compound with (b) maleimide compound, wherein (a) nitrogen-containing heterocyclic compound and (b) maleimide compound have a molar ratio of 1:0.1 to 1:10.

Gel electrolyte and precursor composition thereof and battery

An ion exchange membrane is provided. The ion exchange membrane includes a reaction product of a polymer and a cross-linking reagent. The polymer includes a first repeat unit, and a second repeat unit. In particular, the first repeat unit is and, the second repeat unit is wherein Ris Ais F, Cl, Br, I, OH, HCO, HSO, SbF, BF, HPO, HPO, or HPO; X isCHYCH, i and j are independently 0, or an integer from 1 to 4; Y is &#x2014;O&#x2014;, &#x2014;S&#x2014;, &#x2014;CH&#x2014;, or &#x2014;NH&#x2014;; Ris independently Calkyl group; and, Rand Rare hydrogen, or independently Calkyl group; and, the cross-linking reagent is a compound having at least two imide groups.

Ion exchange membrane

A composite electrode material of a lithium secondary battery and a lithium secondary battery are provided. The composite electrode material of the lithium secondary battery at least includes an electrode active powder and a nanoscale coating layer coated on the surface of the electrode active powder, wherein the nanoscale coating layer is composed of a metastable state polymer, a compound A, a compound B, or a combination thereof. The compound A is a monomer having a reactive terminal functional group, and the compound B is a heterocyclic amino aromatic derivative used as an initiator. The weight ratio of the nanoscale coating layer to the composite electrode material of the lithium secondary battery is 0.005% to 10%.

The application relates to a gel polymer electrolyte and/or polymer modified electrode materials for lithium batteries. The gel polymer electrolyte or the polymer modified electrode material includes at least a polymer represented by the following formula (I):

A separator substrate include a substrate having a bulk portion and a surface portion, the surface portion having at least one porous area with a net charge; and ionic particles coupling to at least a part of the at least one porous area. The ionic particles have a net charge of an opposite sign to the net charge of the at least one porous area. The coupling between the part of the at least one porous area and the ionic particles may result in at least one of a good electrochemical performance, chemical stability, thermal stability, wettability, and mechanical strength of the separator substrate.

Hybrid materials using ionic particles

A non-aqueous electrolyte including a lithium salt, an organic solvent, and an electrolyte additive is provided. The electrolyte additive is a meta-stable state nitrogen-containing polymer formed by reacting Compound (A) and Compound (B). Compound (A) is a monomer having a reactive terminal functional group. Compound (B) is a heterocyclic amino aromatic derivative as an initiator. A molar ratio of Compound (A) to Compound (B) is from 10:1 to 1:10. A lithium secondary battery containing the non-aqueous electrolyte is further provided. The non-aqueous electrolyte of this disclosure has a higher decomposition voltage than a conventional non-aqueous electrolyte, such that the safety of the battery during overcharge or at high temperature caused by short-circuit current is improved.

Non-aqueous electrolyte and lithium secondary battery including the same

Proton exchange membrane compositions having high proton conductivity are provided. The proton exchange membrane composition includes a hyper-branched polymer, wherein the hyper-branched polymer has a DB (degree of branching) of more than 0.5. A polymer with high ion conductivity is distributed uniformly over the hyper-branched polymer, wherein the hyper-branched polymer has a weight ratio equal to or more than 5 wt %, based on the solid content of the proton exchange membrane composition.

A meta-stable state nitrogen-containing polymer formed by reacting Compound (A) and Compound (B) is described. Compound (A) is a monomer having a reactive terminal functional group. Compound (B) is a heterocyclic amino aromatic derivative as an initiator. The molar ratio of Compound (A) to Compound (B) is from 10:1 to 1:10. The meta-stable state nitrogen-containing polymer has a variance less than 2% in its narrow molecular weight distribution after being retained at 55&#xb0; C. for one month.

The disclosed forms a proton exchange membrane. First, multi-maleimide and barbituric acid are copolymerized to form a hyper-branched polymer. Next, the solvent of the sulfonated tetrafluoroethylene copolymer (Nafion) aqueous solution is replaced from water with dimethyl acetamide (DMAc). 10 to 20 parts by weight of the hyper-branched polymer is added to the 90 to 80 parts by weight of the Nafion in a DMAc solution, stood and heated to 50&#xb0; C. to inter-penetrate the hyper-branched polymer and the Nafion. The heated solution is coated on a substrate, baked, and pre-treated to remove residue solvent for completing an inter-penetrated proton exchange membrane.

A gel polymer electrolyte precursor and a rechargeable cell comprising the same are provided. The gel polymer electrolyte precursor comprises a bismaleimide monomer or bismaleimide oligomer, a compound having formula (I): a non-aqueous metal salt electrolyte, a non-protonic solvent, and a free radical initiator, wherein the bismaleimide oligomer is prepared by reaction of barbituric acid and bismaleimide, X comprises oxygen, organic hydrocarbon compounds, organic hydrocarbon oxide compounds, oligomers or polymers, n is 2 or 3, and A independently comprises wherein m is 0&#x2dc;6, X comprises hydrogen, cyano, nitro or halogen, and Rindependently comprises hydrogen or C1&#x2dc;4 alkyl.

Gel polymer electrolyte precursor and rechargeable cell comprising the same

A nonaqueous electrolyte having maleimide additives and rechargeable cells employing the same are provided. The nonaqueous electrolyte having maleimide additives comprises an alkali metal electrolyte, a nonaqueous solvent, and maleimide additives. Specifically, the maleimide additives comprise maleimide monomer, bismaleimide monomer, bismaleimide oligomer, or mixtures thereof. The maleimide additives comprise functional groups, such as a maleimide double bond, phenyl group carboxyl, or imide, enhancing the charge-discharge efficiency, safety, thermal stability, chemical stability, flame-resistance, and lifespan of the secondary cells of the invention.

Nonaqueous electrolyte having maleimide additives and secondary cells employing the same

Disclosed is a gel electrolyte for a photosensitive dye and method for manufacturing the same. First, bismaleimide and barbituric acid are dissolved in Br&#xf6;nsted base solution to form a gelling additive. Subsequently, the gelling additive is added into an ionic liquid electrolyte. The liquid electrolyte is then gelled at room temperature to form a gel electrolyte for the photosensitive dye utilized in dye sensitized solar cells. In addition, barbituric acid is further added into the gelling additive to enhance the gelling rate of the ionic liquid electrolyte.

A proton exchange membrane and method for formation the same is disclosed. When forming the proton exchange membrane, first, a bismaleimide and barbituric acid are copolymerized to form a hyper-branched polymer. Next, the solvent of the sulfonated tetrafluorethylene copolymer (Nafion) aqueous solution is replaced with dimethyl acetamide (DMAc). 10 to 15 parts by weight of the hyper-branched polymer is added to 90 to 85 parts by weight of the Nafion in the DMAc solution, stood and heated to 50&#xb0; C. for inter-penetration of the hyper-branched polymer and the Nafion. The heated solution is coated on a substrate, baked, and pre-treated to remove residue solvent to complete formation of the proton exchange membrane.

Proton exchange membrane and method for manufacturing the same

A flame retarding polymer electrolyte composition containing maleimides includes a modified maleimide; a lithium salt; and at least one ionic solution in a ratio of at least 2 wt % relative to the total weight of the composition. By using the hyperbranched dendrimer-like structure of the modified maleimide as grafted skeleton for polymer electrolytes, the electrolyte composition can encapsulate an electrolytic solution continuously, thus preventing the exudation of the electrolytic solution and increasing the stability of lithium ionic conduction. Since the ionic solution is nonflammable, the safety of batteries are further enhanced when the polymer electrolyte composition is used as polymer electrolyte for a lithium secondary battery.
