A device and method for emitting output light utilizes multiple light sources to produce original light having different peak wavelengths. A first light source of the device is configured to generate first light having a peak wavelength in the blue wavelength range, while a second light source of the device is configured to generate second light having a peak wavelength in the red wavelength range. Some of the original light emitted from at least the first light source is converted into light having a peak wavelength longer than the peak wavelength of the original light using a photoluminescent material to produce the output light.

A light module associated with the camera provides flash light having a spectral content that is adjustable according to one or more drive signals. The light module includes one or more emitters of light of at least two different colors that are individually accessible to the one or more drive signals. The flash light is a mixture of the light from the one or more emitters.

In one embodiment, apparatus is provided with a display panel, a wavelength converting material, and a light source. The display panel is provided with an interface to receive control signals defining one or more primary images that are projected from the display panel. The wavelength converting material absorbs light of a first wavelength and emits light of a second wavelength. The wavelength converting material defines a secondary image that is projected from the display panel when the wavelength converting material is illuminated by the light of the first wavelength. The light source causes the wavelength converting material to be illuminated by the light of the first wavelength.

A studio light having first and second light output regimes, and adjustable color temperature. The color temperatures of the first and second light output regimes may be different. The light module includes one or more emitters of light of at least two different colors. An external signal causes the light module to switch from a first light output regime to a second, higher intensity light output regime, and back to the first light output regime.

An apparatus having a light source, light pipe, and light conversion layer is disclosed. The light source includes a plurality of LED dies arranged in an array, each LED emitting light having an excitation wavelength, the light source emitting light within a cone of angles. The light pipe is positioned to receive the light within the cone of angles through an edge surface such that the light within the predetermined cone of angles is totally reflected from the top surface. The light pipe has features that redirect some of the light at angles such that some of the redirected light exits through the top surface. The light conversion layer overlies the top surface and converts light of the excitation wavelength to light in an output spectrum having wavelengths different from the excitation wavelength. A display layer can be placed such that it is illuminated by light from the light pipe.

Light source for LCD back-lit displays

A phosphor composition and a light source constructed therefrom are disclosed. The phosphor composition includes first and second phosphors. The first phosphor includes first phosphor particles that convert light of an excitation wavelength to light having a first spectrum characterized by an intensity of light that varies as a function of wavelength. The first phosphor particles are chosen such that the first spectrum is independent of the size of the particles. The second phosphor includes particles of a QD phosphor that convert the excitation light to light in a QD phosphor spectrum. The first phosphor particles and the QD phosphor particles are present in a ratio of concentrations. The ratio, the first phosphor particles, and the QD phosphor particles are chosen such that a combined spectrum has an intensity that is more uniform as a function of wavelength than either the QD phosphor spectrum or the first spectrum.

A touch indication device comprises a light guide structure for passing light of a light source via total internal reflection. A touch surface disturbs the total internal reflection when touched, causing light to leave the light guide structure. A light enhancement layer converts the light leaving the light guide and sends the converted light to a light detector. The light enhancement layer amplifies the intensity and/or changes the color of the light leaving the light guide. The detector determines the position of the touch on the touch surface based on the light from the light enhancement layer.

A light emitting device and method for fabricating the device utilizes a layer of photonic crystals and a region of diffusing material to enhance the light output of the device. The layer of photonic crystals is positioned over a light source, such as a light emitting diode die, and the region of diffusing material is positioned over the layer of photonic layer.
