A honeycomb structure includes a pillar-shaped honeycomb structure body having a porous partition wall disposed to surround a plurality of cells, wherein a major component of the partition wall is cordierite, a porosity of the partition wall is 45 to 55%, an average pore diameter of the partition wall is 8 to 19 &#x3bc;m, a cumulative pore volume of the partition wall is such that a pore volume ratio of the pores having a pore diameter larger than a thickness of the partition wall relative to an overall pore volume of the partition wall is 3.0% or less, and a pore volume ratio of the pores having a pore diameter of 10 &#x3bc;m or less relative to the overall pore volume of the partition wall is 30% or more, and a pore diameter distribution of the partition wall is a unimodal distribution, or a multimodal distribution.

Honeycomb structure

A honeycomb structure includes a pillar-shaped honeycomb structure body having a porous partition wall disposed to surround a plurality of cells, which serving as fluid through channels extending from a first end face to a second end face, wherein the plurality of cells includes: large opening cells having a large opening area on the first end face and the second end face; and small opening cells having an opening area smaller than that of the large opening cells on the first end face and the second end face, a ratio of an opening diameter of the large opening cells to an opening diameter of the small opening cells is larger than 1.11 and smaller than 1.28, and the opening diameter of the small opening cells is larger than 0.78 mm, and a cell density of the honeycomb structure body is larger than 93 pcs/cmand smaller than 104 pcs/cm.

A honeycomb structure includes a plurality of prismatic columnar shaped honeycomb segments; a bonding layer bonding side faces of the honeycomb segments; and a circumferential wall disposed to surround a honeycomb segment bonded body having the honeycomb segments arranged in a grid pattern and bonded with the bonding layer, wherein the honeycomb segments has a porous partition wall disposed to surround a plurality of cells, the cells in other than outermost circumference have a hexagonal shape in a section orthogonal to the cell extending direction, the honeycomb segments include first and second honeycomb segment, the second honeycomb segment is different from the first in at least one of: a shape in the section; a size; and an arrangement direction of the cells and an extended line of one diagonal line imaginarily depicted in the cells in the first honeycomb segment and that in the second are configured to be orthogonal.

A honeycomb structure comprising: a honeycomb structure body that includes a plurality of porous partition walls and intersection parts, and a catalyst layer, wherein the porosity of the partition wall is 20 to 70%, the average pore diameter of the pores in the partition wall is 1 to 60 &#x3bc;m, a plurality of the partition walls includes a notched partition wall having a recessed part in which at least one end is notched, the ratio of the notched partition wall in the partition walls is 1 to 100%, the recessed part of the notched partition wall has a depth of 10 to 200% of the standard length, and the recessed part of the notched partition wall is a part having a width of 33 to 100% of the standard width.

A honeycomb structure includes a honeycomb structure body including porous partition walls defining a plurality of cells serving as fluid passages extending from an inflow end face to an outflow end face. A honeycomb structure includes a porous partition wall disposed so as to surround cells extending from a first end face to a second end face. The cells include partially clogged cells which account for 10 to 80% of the total number of the cells, and each of which includes a protrusion that protrudes inward from the surface of the partition wall. The protrusion is partially formed in a direction in which each partially clogged cell extends. In a projected view from the first end face to the second end face, a ratio of area of the protrusion in each partially clogged cell to whole area of the through channel of each partially clogged cell is 5 to 80%, the whole area including the protrusion, and the partition wall surrounding each partially clogged cell has a thickness at a thinnest part of 0.038 mm or more.

A honeycomb structure includes a honeycomb structure body that includes a porous partition wall which defines a plurality of cells serving as through channels of fluid and extending from an inflow end face as one end face to an outflow end face as the other end face, and a circumferential wall arranged on a circumferential surface of the honeycomb structure body. The circumferential wall has a thickness of 0.5 to 4.0 mm, a gap path is formed along a surface of the circumferential wall inside the circumferential wall, the gap path has a width of 0.4 to 4.0 mm, and has a height of 50 to 99% of the thickness of the circumferential wall, and a total length of the gap path is 1000% or more of a length in the cell extending direction of the honeycomb structure body.
