A method is implemented by an ONU in a 50G-PON. The method comprises receiving an encoded DS PHY frame from an OLT, the encoded DS PHY frame comprises an FEC codeword, the FEC codeword comprises an SFC field and a payload, and the SFC field and the payload are encoded with a same FEC; decoding the FEC codeword using the FEC to obtain a decoded SFC field and the payload; performing a first verification of the decoded SFC field while in a sync state of a synchronization state machine; and staying in the sync state when the first verification is successful or exiting the sync state when the first verification is unsuccessful.

Frame coding and optical network unit (ONU) synchronization in passive optical networks (PONs)

A communication method and device are provided for communication in a point-to-multi-point communication network. A communication method includes receiving, by a node of a plurality of multi-point nodes, a transmission frame comprising a header including a repetition information and a data section comprising multiple modulation symbols, with at least two repeated modulation symbols that are repeated to represent a first modulation symbol; extracting, by the node, the repetition information of the header; recovering, by node, the amplitude of each modulation symbol of the at least two repeated modulation symbols; and combining, by the node, the amplitudes of the at least two repeated modulation symbols, based on the repetition information, to reconstruct the first modulation symbol represented by the at least two repeated modulation symbols.

Communication method and apparatus in a point-to-multipoint communication network

An ONU is provided. The ONU comprises a receiver configured to receive a first PON frame from an OLT, the first PON frame comprising a first PSBd field, the first PSBd field comprising a first PSync field, the first PSync field comprising first bits, and a first quantity of the first bits being greater than 64 bits; and a processor coupled to the receiver and configured to perform synchronization of the first PON frame by matching the first bits to a pre-stored sequence.

Multiple-rate optical network unit (ONU) activation

An apparatus includes a processor configured to determine a set of first lanes associated with a PON, select a subset of second lanes from the set, and perform lane bonding by bonding the subset to an ONU. A transmitter coupled to the processor is configured to transmit a lane bonding assignment to the ONU. An ONU includes a plurality of receivers configured to receive a first message comprising an announcement indicating an OLT lane capability. A processor coupled to the receivers is configured to process the first message and generate a second message in response to the first message, wherein the second message comprises a report indicating an ONU lane capability and prompting lane bonding in a PON. A plurality of transmitters coupled to the processor is configured to transmit the second message to the OLT.

Lane bonding in passive optical networks (PONs)

The present disclosure relates to methods and devices for processing a physical layer operations, administration, and maintenance (PLOAM) reset message. One example method includes receiving the PLOAM reset message comprising a reset level, the reset level comprising an indication of a component of an optical network unit (ONU) to be reset, and resetting the ONU according to the reset level.

A method of fragmented packet reception in a multiple-channel passive optical network (PON). The method includes receiving, at a receiver, a plurality of encapsulated packet fragments over a plurality of channels. Each packet fragment of the plurality of packet fragments comprises a header. The method also includes assembling the plurality of packet fragments according to arrival times of respective headers of the plurality of packet fragments. The method further includes buffering, by a processor, the plurality of packet fragments in a sequence based on the arrival times of the respective headers.

High data rate extension with bonding

A method and apparatus for communications in a passive optical network (PON) system are provided. An optical line terminal (OLT) generates a PON downstream Physical Layer (PHY) frame comprising a downstream physical synchronization block (PSBd) that comprises a wavelength identification (ID) of at least one downstream wavelength of the plurality of downstream wavelengths. The OLT sends the PON PHY frame comprising the wavelength ID in the PSBd to ONU for confirming the at least one downstream wavelength.
