An optical or optoelectronic transceiver and methods of making the same are disclosed. The transceiver comprises a connector configured to receive an optical fiber array, a filter that is (i) configured to reflect first optical signals having a first wavelength and (ii) transparent to second optical signals having a second wavelength, wherein each of the first and second optical signals independently has an optical path to or from the optical fiber array, a mirror in the optical path of the second optical signals configured to reflect the second optical signals, a plurality of photodiodes configured to receive a subset of the first and/or second optical signals and generate a corresponding plurality of received electrical signals therefrom, and a plurality of laser diodes configured to transmit a remainder of the first and/or second optical signals from a corresponding plurality of transmitted electrical signals.

Optical transceiver and methods of making and using the same

Embodiments of the disclosure pertain to an optical transmitter comprising a laser configured to generate an optical signal from a single-ended electrical signal, a housing or (sub)assembly containing the laser, a driver configured to generate the single-ended electrical signal, a direct current (DC) return path, and an alternating current (AC) return path. The laser has a DC power pin, and the DC power has a DC component and an AC component. The driver has a first impedance at a first output through which the single-ended electrical signal passes. The housing or (sub)assembly has a second impedance matching the first impedance. The DC return path comprises an inductor and is configured to carry or conduct the DC component of the DC power from the laser (e.g., to an input pin on the driver). The AC return path is configured to carry or conduct the AC component of the DC power from the laser. Methods of using and manufacturing the same are also disclosed.

Impedance matching circuit for optical transmitters and methods of making and using the same

A multifunctional laser driving circuit, and an optical module and method of using the same, are disclosed. The circuit combines first and second optical signals having different functions to form a compound signal, and switches among the first optical signal, second optical signal and compound signal by enabling or disabling first and second laser drivers corresponding to the first and second optical signals. The circuit can provide functions to optical modules, including converting an electrical data signal into an optical data signal; converting an electrical line monitoring signal into an optical line monitoring signal; combining the optical data and line monitoring signals and synchronously transmitting them to a fiber; and providing an OTDR function. Relative to using external OTDR tools to detect line faults, the present circuit and method enables simple line connection, timely detection of lines faults, and low costs of implementation.

Multifunctional laser diode driving circuit, a module comprising the same, and a method using the same

A dual-rate power point compensating circuit, comprising a microprocessor and a transmitter optical subsystem assembly (TOSA), wherein the TOSA includes a laser connected to a laser driver, a monitor photodiode (MPD) connected to the laser driver, and a current divider connected to the microprocessor and the MPD. When a feedback current from the MPD exceeds the adjustable and/or operating range of the laser driver, the feedback current is reduced so that it is kept in the adjustable and/or operating range of the laser driver. The laser driver determines the optical output power of the laser from the value of the reduced feedback current. The circuit and method extend the adjustable and/or operating range of a laser driver and enable it to regulate a target optical output power of the laser with a broad testing range and high accuracy when the feedback current is relatively high.

Circuit, optical module, methods and optical communication system for dual rate power point compensation

A DC level detection circuit between high speed signal line connecting ports and a system using the same in optical communications is disclosed. Corresponding ports of a high speed signal line each have an additional resistor, where one additional resistor has a resistance significantly greater than that of the other resistor. The smaller resistor is grounded. The larger resistor is connected to a DC voltage source, a low pass filter, and a signal detection port. Thus, when both ports of the high speed signal line are connected, a status of the electrical level detected at the signal detection port changes. The circuit detects the connection state of the high speed signal line without negative effects on signal transmission and is applicable to various circuits, especially plug-in modules and corresponding slots. Thus, the circuit further enables signal port multifunctionality, increases module installation accuracy, and provides higher compatibility for plug-in modules.

The present application discloses a method and circuitry that improves the monitoring and/or reporting accuracy and of a TOSA transmitter output power. In the method, the output power of an optical transmitter is measured at 25&#xb0; C. and at N individual temperatures to obtain N tracking error (TE) values corresponding to the N individual temperature values, then a lookup table covering an operating temperature range of the transmitter is created based on a one-to-one mapping relationship between the TE values and the N individual temperatures and a line fitting process. The transmitter output power is reported at an interface of the transmitter according to the TE value at the transmitter operating temperature in the lookup table. The present application also discloses optical modules and optical communication systems. The present method and transmitter effectively improve the monitoring and/or reporting accuracy of the transmitter output power.

A system for measuring gains of a plurality of photo diodes includes a chamber adapted to host the plurality of photo diodes and a temperature control unit configured to control the temperature within the chamber to a predetermined temperature. A control unit selects at least one of the plurality of photo diodes. A hosting unit is configured to provide a bias voltage to the selected photo diode at the predetermined temperature. A light source transmits photo signals to the selected photo diode at the predetermined temperature. A measurement unit configured to measure current signals generated by the selected photo diode in response to the photo signals under the bias voltage at the predetermined temperature.
