An electroluminescent device including a transparent substrate, a securing layer, a light scattering layer, an electroluminescent unit including a transparent electrode layer, a light emitting element including at least one light emitting layer, and a reflecting electrode layer in that order, wherein the light scattering layer includes one monolayer of inorganic particles having an index of refraction larger than that of the light emitting layer and wherein the securing layer holds the inorganic particles in the light scattering layer.

Electroluminescent device having improved light output

An OLED device includes an anode, a cathode, and at least one individually selected organic light-emitting layer disposed between the anode and cathode. The device also includes an electron-transporting layer disposed between the at least one light-emitting layer and the cathode, such electron-transporting layer including a first electron-transporting material, and an electron-injecting layer disposed between the electron-transporting layer and the cathode, such electron-injecting layer including a metal dopant having a work function less than 4.0 eV and an electron-transporting material that is different from the first electron-transporting material.

An organic light-emitting device comprising an anode; a cathode; a hole-transporting layer disposed between the anode and the cathode; a phosphorescent light-emitting layer disposed between the hole-transporting layer and the cathode, wherein the phosphorescent light-emitting layer includes at least one host and at least one phosphorescent dopant; a first exciton-blocking layer disposed between the hole-transporting layer and the phosphorescent light-emitting layer; wherein the first exciton-blocking layer has a triplet energy greater than the triplet energy of the host in the phosphorescent light-emitting layer; and a second exciton-blocking layer disposed between the first exciton-blocking layer and the phosphorescent light-emitting layer, wherein the second exciton-blocking layer is in contact with the phosphorescent light-emitting layer, and wherein the second exciton-blocking layer has a triplet energy less than the triplet energy of the first exciton-blocking layer.

A method of depositing a layer onto a substrate, comprising heating an evaporator to a temperature capable of completely evaporating the evaporant to be deposited, dispensing into the evaporator one or more quantized units of the evaporant where the evaporant is completely vaporized, providing an area vapor dispenser having a plurality of apertures, and directing the vaporized evaporant from the evaporator to the area vapor dispenser so that the evaporant is dispensed through the apertures to deposit the layer on the substrate.

An light-emitting diode device, including a substrate; and a reflective electrode and a semi-transparent electrode formed over the substrate and an unpatterned white light-emitting layer formed between the reflective electrode and the semi-transparent electrode, the reflective electrode, semi-transparent electrode, and unpatterned white-light-emitting layer forming an optical microcavity, and wherein either the reflective or semi-transparent electrodes is patterned to form a plurality of independently controllable light-emitting elements with at least one light-emitting element having no color filter. Color filters are formed over a side of the semi-transparent electrodes opposite the unpatterned white light-emitting layer in correspondence with the light-emitting elements, the color filters having at least two different colors.

A light-emitting diode device, including a substrate; and a reflective electrode and a semi-transparent electrode formed over the substrate and an unpatterned white light-emitting layer formed between the reflective electrode and the semi-transparent electrode, the reflective electrode, semi-transparent electrode, and unpatterned white-light-emitting layer forming an optical microcavity, and wherein either the reflective or semi-transparent electrodes is patterned to form a plurality of independently controllable light-emitting elements with at least one light-emitting element having no color filter. Color filters are formed over a side of the semi-transparent electrodes opposite the unpatterned white light-emitting layer in correspondence with the light-emitting elements, the color filters having at least two different colors. Additionally, a reflected-light absorbing layer is located over all of the light-emitting elements.

LED device having improved contrast

In an OLED device having a substrate, a first electrode layer disposed over the substrate, an inorganic short reduction layer disposed over the first electrode layer, an organic electroluminescent medium disposed over the short reduction layer, and a second electrode layer over the electroluminescent medium, a feature is the inclusion of a mixture of ZnS, SiO, and ITO in the short reduction layer wherein the ratio of In atoms to Zn atoms is in the range of from 0.90 to 2.37.

An organic light-emitting diode (OLED) device, comprising: a substrate; an OLED comprising first and second electrodes and one or more layers of organic light-emitting material formed between the electrodes, wherein at least one electrode comprises a transparent electrode, the transparent electrode and layer(s) of organic light-emitting material having a first refractive index range; and an encapsulating cover; wherein at least one of the substrate or cover comprises a transparent substrate or cover having a second refractive index and through which light from the OLED is emitted; and further comprising a light scattering layer located between the substrate and cover, and a transparent low-index element having a third refractive index lower than each of the first refractive index range and second refractive index and located between the scattering layer and the transparent substrate or cover.

OLED device having improved light output

A top-emitting organic light-emitting diode (OLED) device, comprising: a substrate; an OLED comprising a reflective electrode formed on the substrate; one-or-more layers of organic light-emitting material formed over the reflective electrode; and a transparent electrode formed over the one-or-more layers of organic light-emitting material; a light-scattering layer having a rough surface formed over and in contact with the OLED, a cover affixed to the substrate forming a gap between the cover and the light scattering layer; and wherein the gap is a vacuum or the gap is filled with a relatively low-refractive index gas and the light-scattering layer comprises a plurality of relatively high-refractive index light-scattering transparent particles projecting into the gap without contacting the cover and further comprising an adhesive binder in contact with at least some of the light-scattering particles to adhere the light-scattering particles to the OLED.

An organic light-emitting device includes a substrate; a first electrode and a second electrode positioned relative to the substrate in which at least one of the electrodes is the transparent electrode; an organic light-emitting element including at least a light-emitting layer disposed between the two electrodes; and a performance enhancement layer disposed between the two electrodes; wherein the performance enhancement layer is high index and has a thickness of at least 20 nm.

A light-emitting device, comprising: a light emitting element on a first side of a transparent substrate or cover through which light is emitted; and a microlens array on a second side, opposite to the first side, of the transparent substrate or cover though which light is emitted; wherein the microlens array comprises individual hemispherical shaped microlenses having a mean diameter of less than 20 micrometers and a mean microlens height to diameter ratio of greater than 0.30, and has a microlens area fill factor greater than 0.8.

A white light emitting OLED apparatus includes a microcavity OLED device and a light-integrating element, wherein the microcavity OLED device has a white light emitting organic EL element and the microcavity OLED device is configured to have angular-dependent narrow-band emission, and the light-integrating element integrates the angular-dependent narrow-band emission from different angles from the microcavity OLED device to form white light emission.
