A catalyst for methanation reaction and a method for preparing methane are provided. The catalyst for methanation reaction includes a core, a shell encapsulating the core, and an active metal. The core includes cerium dioxide (CeO), the shell includes zirconium dioxide (ZrO), and the active metal is in particle form and is disposed on an outer surface of the shell layer.

A method for selectively chemically reducing COto form CO includes providing a catalyst, and contacting Hand COwith the catalyst to chemically reduce COto form CO. The catalyst includes a metal oxide having a chemical formula of FeCoMnO, in which 0.7≤x≤0.95, 0.01≤y≤0.25, and z is an oxidation coordination number.
