In one or more embodiments, one or more systems, one or more methods, and/or one or more processes may determine that an inventory of components of an information handling system (IHS) includes a first fan and an IHS card, which include a second fan; receive user input indicating a maximum acoustic sound pressure level (SPL); determine a first maximum fan speed for the first fan based at least on the maximum acoustic SPL; determine a first maximum power consumption for the IHS card and a second maximum fan speed for the second fan based at least on the maximum acoustic SPL; provide first configuration information, indicating the first maximum fan speed for the first fan, to a fan controller of the IHS; and provide second configuration information, indicating the first maximum power consumption and the second maximum fan speed for the second fan, to the IHS card.

System and method of managing acoustics of information handling systems

In IHSs (Information Handling Systems), cooling is provided by increasing the airflow generated by cooling fans. However, unnecessary airflow cooling results in noise and wasted energy. An IHS processor may support faster operating frequencies when cooled below an upper threshold, but these operating frequencies drop at temperatures below a lower threshold. Embodiments provide techniques for calibrating the cooling of an IHS to the thermal characteristics of a specific processor since manufacturing variances result in processors having differing responses to cooling. A turbo frequency supported by a processor is measured at a series of temperature margins that are progressively lower than the processor's specification temperature. A rate of increase in the measured turbo frequencies is determined at each of the temperature margins. A first temperature margin is identified at which the rate of increase in turbo frequencies falls below a threshold. This margin is used in providing airflow cooling.

Methods and systems for processor-calibrated fan control

Methods, systems, and computer programs encoded on computer storage medium, for detecting a throttling of a component; identifying a temperature of the component; calculating a thermal response for the component, including: setting the identified temperature as a maximum temperature, setting a first temperature lower than the maximum temperature, wherein for temperatures of the component less than the first temperature, the cooling fan system has a first fan speed, setting a second temperature between the first and the maximum temperature, wherein for temperatures of the component between the first and the second temperatures, a fan speed of the cooling fan system is linearly increased until an acoustic fan speed, setting a third temperature between the second and the maximum temperature, wherein for temperatures of the component between the second and third temperatures, maintaining the fan speed at the acoustic fan speed; applying the thermal response to the component.
