Offshore application of non-uniform optimal sampling survey design

Leveraging migration and demigration, here we propose a learning-based approach for fast denoising with applications to fast-track processing. The method is designed to directly work on raw data without separating each noise type and character. The automatic attenuation of noise is attained by performing migration/demigration guided sparse inversion. By discussing examples from a Permian Basin dataset with very challenging noise issues, we attest the feasibility of this learning-based approach as a fast turnaround alternative to conventional denoising methodology.

Seismic denoising

Methods for processing seismic data are described. The method includes: obtaining seismic data; solving a series of partial differential wave equations, wherein a first partial differential wave equation describes propagation of a seismic wave going from a first reflector to a second reflector, wherein a second partial differential wave equation describes propagation of a seismic wave going from a second reflector to a third reflector, and wherein a third partial differential wave equation describes propagation of a seismic wave going from a third reflector to a seismic receiver, wherein outputting predicted internal multiples for further imaging or attenuation.

A computing device, computing medium and method for generating an image of a tilted orthorhombic medium. The method includes receiving seismic data related to the tilted orthorhombic medium; calculating a wave propagation with a processing device by applying a second-order equation for reverse time migration to the seismic data to generate a tilted orthorhombic wave propagation; and generating the image of the tilted orthorhombic medium based on the tilted orthorhombic wave propagation.

Device and method for calculating 3D reverse time migration in tilted orthorhombic media

A system and method are described herein for generating a velocity model of returned seismic signals for under-ocean floor environments. The system and method generate a series of source signals, receive a corresponding set of direct signals, reflected signals, and refracted signals, solve a velocity model equation using a full waveform inversion function with respect to the received set of direct signals, reflected signals and refracted signals to minimize a least square misfit function by relaxing a dependency on low frequency reflections in the full waveform inversion function. The system and method then generate the velocity model based on the solution to the velocity model equation, and display the velocity model.

There is a method for generating a final image of a subsurface of the earth. The method includes receiving measured seismic data d of the subsurface; selecting an objective function E that is function of a reflectivity r of the subsurface; and calculating, in a processor, the reflectivity r based on the measured seismic data d, the objective function E, simulated data {tilde over (d)}, a modeling operator M from a reverse time demigration (RTDM) process and an imaging operator Mfrom a reverse time migration (RTM) process.

Device and method for stable least-squares reverse time migration

A method for processing seismic data includes receiving seismic data and a velocity model (c(x)) for a plurality of locations (x), scaling a dimension of the seismic data according to the velocity model (c(x)) to provide a velocity normalized seismic data, and generating a final image (S(x)) of the subsurface using the velocity normalized seismic data. The velocity normalized seismic data may be a reverse-time migration image (I(x,&#x3be;)) corresponding to the plurality of locations (x) and a plurality of propagation distance offsets (&#x3be;). The method may also include transforming the reverse-time migration image (I(x,&#x3be;)) for the plurality of selected positions (x) to a wavenumber domain to provide velocity normalized wavenumber data (I(k,&#x3c8;)) and suppressing data components corresponding to non-physical or undefined reflection angles to provide enhanced wavenumber data (I'(k,&#x3c8;)) and using the enhanced wavenumber data (I&#x2032;(k,&#x3c8;)) to generate the final image (S(x)). A corresponding apparatus is also disclosed herein.

Method apparatus and system for migration noise attenuation and image enhancement

Methods and systems for compensating for source and receiver ghost effects in a reverse time migration (RTM) equation are described. Boundary conditions associated with the RTM acoustic wave equations for the source and recorded wavefields are modified. The resultant modified RTM acoustic wave equations are solved to generate ghost compensated modeled seismic images. In another aspect an imaging condition is also modified and the resultant RTM acoustic wave equations are solved to generate velocity and impedance perturbation images.

Seismic data processing including compensating for source and receiver ghost effects in reverse time migration

Methods and systems for generating a stable reverse time demigration (RTDM) equation for predicting wave phenomena such as reflections, refractions and multiples are described. A coupling term is added to an RTDM equation and reflectivity associated with the coupling term is replaced with a pseudo-density function derived from a nonlinear equation. The resultant coupled and stabilized RTDM equation is then used to predict the desired wave phenomena based on the applied seismic image.

Seismic data processing including predicting multiples using a reverse time demigration

Computing device and method for processing seismic traces to produce an image of a subsurface area. The method includes receiving a series of seismic traces related to the subsurface area and recorded by one or more seismic receivers, wherein the one or more seismic sources are originally generated by a source; applying a phase encoding function to the series of seismic traces, at least a portion of said seismic traces comprise signals reflected by geological interfaces of the subsurface area; applying a 3 dimensional (3D) harmonic-source reverse time migration of the series of seismic traces encoded with the phase encoding function; computing a forward wavefield by solving a first wave equation; computing a backward wavefield by solving a second wave equation; and cross-correlating the forward wavefield with the backward wavefield to generate an image of the subsurface.

3-D harmonic-source reverse time migration systems and methods for seismic data analysis

Computer instructions, computing device and method for processing seismic data under-sampled in an angle domain, the seismic data corresponding to a reverse time migration, three-dimensional, angle domain common image gather (ADCIG). The method includes receiving the seismic data; calculating, based on the seismic data, shot and receiver wave-fields with an RTM wave propagation engine; applying a wave-fields decomposition algorithm to obtain a propagation direction for the shot and receiver wave-fields; forming the ADCIG by applying an image condition to the shot and receiver wave-fields; determining that specular energies of the ADCIG are under-sampled around a reflection angle; during the step of forming the ADCIG, extrapolating the specular energies to a neighborhood of the reflection angle; and generating an image of a subsurface that is being surveyed based on the extrapolated specular energies.

The method includes calculating a source wavefield pof a seismic source; calculating a receiver wavefield pof a seismic receiver; applying an algorithm of anti-leakage Fourier transform (ALFT) to transform the source wavefield pto a wavenumber domain; applying the ALFT algorithm to the receiver wavefield to transform the receiver wavefield in the wavenumber domain; determining an imaging condition to the ALFT source and receiver wavefields in the wavenumber domain; computing a reflection angle &#x3b8; and an azimuth angle &#x3c6; of the source wavefield pand receiver wavefield pin the wavenumber domain; calculating the ADCIGs in the wavenumber domain; and applying an inverse fast Fourier transform (FFT) to determine the ADCIGs in the space domain.
