An antenna includes first, second and third waveguides in direct communication with a base waveguide at first, second and third positions, respectively, the base waveguide forming a continuous loop. The second position, at which the second waveguide is in direct communication with the base waveguide, is spaced apart from the first position by about one-sixth the circumference of the loop. The third position, at which the third waveguide is in direct communication with the base waveguide, is spaced apart from the first position by about one-sixth the circumference of the loop, and is uninterruptedly spaced apart from the second position, without extending through the first position, by about two-thirds the circumference of the loop. The first, second and third waveguides comprise closed-channel waveguides, and the second and third waveguides have an open end and are configured to radiate electromagnetic waves and/or focus radiating electromagnetic waves.

A deployable monitoring device is provided comprising a self-righting housing having a video capturing device operably engaged therewith. The housing has a base and an opposed end disposed along an axis, with a center of gravity disposed about the base so as to be self-righting along the axis such that the housing, when righted, is supported by the base. The video capturing device is configured to capture video data of a scene external to the housing. The video data can be transmitted by a transceiver module to a station remotely disposed from the housing, so as to provide a remote visual depiction of the scene. An associated method is also provided.

Deployable monitoring device having self-righting housing and associated method

An interceptor device for protecting a platform against an incoming threat is provided. The interceptor device comprises a housing and a countermeasure device. At least one detonating charge is capable of deploying the countermeasure device. A controller device housed by the housing is capable of directing the detonating charge(s) to deploy the countermeasure device at least partially radially outward of the housing, corresponding to the threat trajectory. A sensor device is in communication with the controller device, and comprises a range-finding apparatus including one of a LADAR, a RADAR, and a LIDAR device, capable of sensing the threat and/or a range thereof, at least partially radially outward of the housing, and notifying the controller device if the threat is sensed, to cause the controller device to direct the detonating charge(s) to deploy the countermeasure device to impact the threat in the intercept zone. Associated systems, and methods are also provided.

Active protection device and associated apparatus, system, and method

An interceptor device adapted to protect a platform associated therewith against an incoming threat having a trajectory by intercepting the threat in an intercept zone is provided. Such an interceptor device comprises a housing defining an axis and a countermeasure device operably engaged with the housing. At least one detonating charge is housed by the housing and is operably engaged with the countermeasure device. A controller device is in communication with the at least one detonating charge, wherein the controller device is housed by the housing and is configured to direct the at least one detonating charge to deploy the countermeasure device at least partially radially outward with respect to the axis of the housing and in correspondence with the trajectory of the threat to thereby cause the countermeasure to impact the threat in the intercept zone. Associated apparatuses, systems, and methods are also provided.

A deployable monitoring apparatus is provided comprising an ovate housing with a video capturing device and a spatial orientation device operably engaged therewith. The housing has a base and an opposed end disposed along an axis, with a center of gravity disposed about the base so as to be self-righting such that the opposed end extends substantially upwardly from the base. The video capturing device is configured to capture video data of a scene external to the housing, and the spatial orientation device is configured to associate a spatial orientation with the video data. The video data and spatial orientation can be transmitted by a transceiver module to a disposed remotely station, so as to provide a spatially-oriented remote visual depiction of the scene. The housing may also include other devices such as, for example, a deterrent device or a distraction device associated therewith. An associated method is also provided.

A system for tracking a vehicle is provided. Such a system comprises a tracking device including a location-determining apparatus configured to determine a location, a signaling device operably engaged with the location-determining apparatus and adapted to transmit a signal, including a location signal corresponding to the location, to a station remotely disposed with respect to the location-determining apparatus, and a securing apparatus operably engaged with the location determining apparatus and adapted to secure the location-determining apparatus to the vehicle while the vehicle is moving. A deployment vehicle is configured to transport the tracking device and deploy the tracking device onto the vehicle so as to thereby allow the securing apparatus to secure the tracking device to the vehicle such that the vehicle can be remotely tracked from the station in response to the location signal. An associated device and method are also provided.

Tracking device and associated system and method

A deployable monitoring apparatus is provided comprising an ovate housing and a video capturing device operably engaged therewith. The housing has a base and an opposed end disposed along an axis. The housing is further configured to have a center of gravity disposed about the base so as to be self-righting along the axis such that the opposed end extends substantially upwardly from the base. The video capturing device is operably engaged with the housing and is configured to capture video data of a scene external to the housing. In some instances, the video data of the scene may be transmitted by a transceiver module to a station disposed remotely from the scene, wherein the station is configured to process the video data so as to provide a remote visual depiction of the scene. The housing may also include other devices such as, for example, a light source, a motion sensor, an audio sensor, and a chemical sensor functioning independently of or in conjunction with the video capturing device. An associated method is also provided.

A surveillance and security system, adapted to be applicable to a premises, is provided. The system comprises a system component installed on and capable of interacting with the premises. A wireless command unit is configured to communicate with and control the system component from a remotely-disposed location with respect thereto. The system component is configured to perform an examination of the premises and to send a corresponding surveillance signal to the command unit. The command unit is configured to send a broadcast signal to the system component for a corresponding broadcast to the premises. The command unit is thereby capable of two-way audio/video communication with the system component so as to provide remote surveillance and security for the premises. An associated method is also provided.

Interactive wireless surveillance and security system and associated method

A multi-mode, common-aperture antenna system capable of simultaneously transmitting and/or receiving electromagnetic radiation in at least two frequency bands. The antenna system includes a first beam antenna comprised of a parabolic reflector and four open-ended waveguides that act as an antenna feed. The parabolic reflector focuses radiation along a first beam axis that may be scanned electronically or mechanically. The four waveguides extend from the focus of the parabolic reflector to transceivers that transmit and/or receive radiation in a first mode. The transceivers mount at the rear of the reflector. The antenna system also includes a second beam antenna which operates in a second mode, e.g. optical or infrared (IR) mode. The second beam antenna includes a small opening in the parabolic reflector that acts as an optical aperture for a focusing lens mounted at the rear of the reflector and positioned coaxially with the small opening. An optical apparatus occupies the focal plane of the focusing lens. The optical apparatus generates and/or senses optical radiation incident with the beam axis of the second beam antenna.

Dual-mode, common-aperture antenna system

A flexible waveguide for transmitting waves from a sensor mounted on a gimbal includes a cable comprising an outer flexible sheath and a plurality of flexible polytetrafluoroethylene fibers bundled within the sheath and including a termination flange coupled to at least one end thereof with the flange including a wedge-shaped plug and a tapered cavity engaging the end of the cable.

Flexible, dielectric millimeter waveguide

An active semiconductor device, such as a Gunn effect device, capable of operation at extremely high frequencies, fabricated in situ on a substrate that also serves as a dielectric waveguide to propagate energy from the device. In the embodiment disclosed, a Gunn effect diode is formed on a substrate of gallium arsenide (GaAs), together with a cavity region and a metalized heat sink layer permitting operation at relatively high power levels. A bias current is applied through a conductive strip and then through the cavity region to the diode, and a quarter-wave choke is provided in the conductive strip to prevent transmission of radio-frequency energy back along the strip.

Active high frequency semiconductor device with integral waveguide

A millimeter wave integrated oscillator circuit utilizing an active device uch as an IMPATT or Gunn diode device located in a metallized dielectric cavity which is an extension of a half-height rectangular cross-sectional boron nitride image guide having a metallized under surface solder bonded to a metallic substrate forming an image plane. The diode is energized by means of a bias conductor fed into the cavity through a small slot in the cavity wall. One end of the image guide terminates in the cavity, while the opposite end is tapered along its sides and terminates in a full height hollow metal waveguide section partially including the metallic substrate. The metal waveguide section, moreover, includes flanges for coupling external circuit means to the image guide to metal waveguide transition.

Millimeter wave image guide integrated oscillator

Disclosed is a millimeter wave integrated circuit balanced mixer including wo signal ports, a local oscillator and an input signal port, coupled to a pair of solid state millimeter wave mixer diodes by means of an image guide 3db hybrid signal coupler and a pair of mixer cavities formed from a wafer of boron nitride whose bottom surface is metallized and soldered onto a metal substrate having a metal surface defining an image plane. The signal coupler consists of two curved lengths of boron nitride image guide having a spacing therebetween in the form of a thin slot for providing the proper coupling factor. The cavities formed in the boron nitride wafer are metallized and are configured to receive one like end of the respective image waveguides. The opposite ends of the image waveguides are tapered and are located in image guide to wavelength transitions at the respective signal ports. IF output signal lines in the form of metallized lines are located on the end portion of the image guides in the respective cavities for coupling to an IF amplifier.

Millimeter wave image guide integrated balanced mixer

The specification describes a dielectric image guide harmonic pumped mixer circuit wherein two dielectric image guide strips of different chosen cross-sectional configurations are mounted on a metallic substrate which forms the image plane for the mixer circuit. These image guide strips have impedance matching tapered ends which extend into a central mixer cavity region on the substrate. A pair of reverse poled mixer diodes are mounted in the central cavity region to receive respectively RF incoming signals from one dielectric image guide and local oscillator signals from the other dielectric image guide. Differential currents generated in the two diodes cause the second harmonic of the local oscillator signal frequency to mix with the incoming RF signal frequency. An intermediate frequency (IF) signal current produced thereby is conductively coupled from the mixer cavity into IF signal processing electronics. Advantageously, the image plane substrate surface is configured to receive, in a coplanar fashion, a modular circuit board containing electronics such as an IF amplifier, mixer, and detector which in turn are conductively coupled to the mixer diodes by a metallic strip or the like in a compact, substantially planar-upper surface configuration.

Dielectric image guide integrated harmonic pumped mixer

Disclosed is a dielectric image guide integrated circuit including first and second sections of image guide of preselected cross-sectional areas joined by an image guide transition section of variable cross-sectional area and all mounted on the surface of an image or ground plane. The image guide transition section has a cavity therein for receiving microwave/millimeter wave energy from the first section of the image guide, and this energy is coupled into a diode mounted within the cavity where it is either detected or frequency converted by the diode. Advantageously, the diode may be mounted on a metal cover which is positioned atop the cavity in the waveguide transition section, and it receives its operating bias from a bias pin connection extending through an opening in the ground plane and including a wisker contact to the diode.
