A comfort system outdoor unit with a heat exchanger coil and a fan in its top opening has an orifice structure and an insert registerable with the orifice structure to streamline the inward flow of air that passes over a lower end of the orifice structure. The insert may be fastened directly to the orifice structure lower end, or it may be installed so as to extend substantially from an upper edge of the coil to the orifice structure lower end.

In a fuel cell stack, an inlet fuel distributor () comprises a plurality of fuel distributing passageways (--) of substantially equal length and equal flow cross section to uniformly distribute fuel cell inlet fuel from a fuel supply conduit () to a fuel inlet manifold (). The conduits may be either channels (-) formed within a plate () or tubes (-). The channels may have single exits () or double exits () into the fuel inlet manifold.

An inlet fuel distributor (-) has a permeable baffle () between a fuel supply pipe () and a fuel inlet manifold () causing fuel to be uniformly distributed along the length of the fuel inlet manifold. A surface () may cause impinging fuel to turn and flow substantially omnidirectionally improving its uniformity. Recycle fuel may be provided () into the flow downstream of the fuel inlet distributor. During startup, fuel or inert gas within the inlet fuel distributor and the fuel inlet manifold may be vented through an exhaust valve () in response to a controller () so as to present a uniform fuel front to the inlets of the fuel flow fields ().

Permeable inlet fuel gas distributor for fuel cells

A fan is provided for use with a casing having a bellmouth and a conduit portion. The fan has a hub, a number of blades extending from the hub, and a shroud. In cooperation with the casing and the conduit portion surrounding the shroud, the shroud has means for generating a separation bubble effective to limit a recirculation flow.
