A teeth whitening system that emits electromagnetic radiation onto surfaces of a user's teeth and may also dispense a tooth whitening material for contact with the user's teeth. In one aspect, the teeth whitening system includes a mouthpiece comprising a wall and a bite platform extending from the wall that collectively define a first channel for receiving a user's teeth and an electromagnetic radiation source coupled to the mouthpiece and configured to emit electromagnetic radiation onto surfaces of the user's teeth that are positioned in the first channel. The teeth whitening system may also include an opening in the wall through which a tooth whitening material may be dispensed into the channel. The tooth whitening system may alternatively include apertures in the wall or bite platform through which a tooth whitening material can be dispensed.

This disclosure provide new multilayer polyester (particularly PET) containers that have improved gas barrier properties over conventional monolayer PET containers. In particular, a 2,5-furandicarboxylate polyester (for example, poly(ethylene furan-2,5-dicarboxylate) (PEF)) barrier layer that has superior gas barrier and mechanical properties relative to PET, that is 'sandwiched' between two PET layers, has been found to achieve a significantly higher barrier against gas permeation relative to conventional monolayer PET container of the same size and shape. Barrier enhanced pet multilayer container

Provided is a method for preparing a diol. In the method, a saccharide and hydrogen as raw materials are contacted with a catalyst in water to prepare the diol. The employed catalyst is a composite catalyst comprised of a main catalyst and a cocatalyst, wherein the main catalyst is a water-insoluble acid-resistant alloy; and the cocatalyst is a soluble tungstate and/or soluble tungsten compound. The method uses an acid-resistant, inexpensive and stable alloy needless of a support as a main catalyst, and can guarantee a high yield of the diol in the case where the production cost is relatively low.

Refillable polymer bottle and method for improved caustic stress crack resistance

This disclosure provides new methods to characterize and relate residual stress and orientation imparted to the injection molded polymeric preform with orientation and residual stress in the resulting blow molded bottle. The method developed allows one to define and map the coupled thermal stress histories of both processes to define applicable preferred mutual processing windows for both preform and bottle molding processes. Stretch blow-molding parameters are developed using the disclosed method.

Photoelastic characterization of residual stresses and stress distributions in injection molded preforms and stretch blow-molded bottle

This disclosure provides economical and effective methods and apparatus for repairing scratches and scuffs on refillable bottle surfaces that minimally contaminates the bottle during the refurbishing process. In one aspect, the method comprises the steps of: a) adding at least one fluid into the polymeric packaging material such as a bottle to form at least a partially filled packaging material; and b) applying at least one heat source to an exterior surface of the at least partially filled packaging material to form a repaired polymeric packaging material. Apparatus and recycling systems that incorporate this method are also disclosed.
