An electronic device including a housing, a connector port and a switching device is provided. The connector port is embedded in the housing for a peripheral device inserted therein to electrically connect thereto. The processor is electrically connected to the connector port and comprises a detection pin and a 1-wire pin. The switching device is coupled between the connector port and the processor to selectively connect the connector port to one of the detection pin or the 1-wire pin. When the peripheral device is inserted into the connector port, the processor controls the switching device to connect the connector port to the detection pin to determine whether the connected peripheral device is a 1-wire device. When the processor determines that the connected peripheral device is a 1-wire device, the processor controls the switching device to connect the connector port to the 1-wire pin and the processor executes 1-wire communication with the peripheral device via the 1-wire pin.

First resistor is coupled between the detection pin and first voltage. The present invention provides a handheld device comprising: a processor, which is electrically connected to a light sensor. When the processor determines that a phone call event has occurred, the processor will enable the light sensor to control the display. The invention provides a method for an electronic device for automatically detecting and identifying a peripheral device. The electronic device comprises a connector having a first pin and a second pin and connects to a peripheral device through the connector. The method comprises the steps of determining whether the peripheral device is connected to the connector; reading a first state of the first pin and the second pin when determining that the peripheral device is connected to the connector; setting a voltage of the first pin to a first voltage level and then reading a second state of the first pin and the second pin; and identifying the peripheral device according to the first state and the second state. A portable electronic apparatus and a connection method therefore are disclosed. The portable electronic apparatus comprises a connector, a processing circuit, and a switch module. After a plug is plugged into the connector, the processing circuit reads a voltage value of the plug via the switch module. When determining that the voltage value of the plug is within a first voltage range, the processing circuit outputs switch signals to the switch module, so that an input signal of the plug is able to be transmitted to the processing circuit via the connector and the switch module. When determining that the voltage value of the plug is within a second voltage range, the processing circuit outputs other switch signals to the switch module, so that an output signal of the processing circuit is able to be transmitted to the plug via the switch module and the connector.

The electronic device comprises a processor having two multiple purpose pins (MPPand MPP), an external device connection port, and two resistance elements. A calibrating method for a portable electronic device having azimuth device such as an electronic compass is disclosed. The calibrating method can be achieved by checking at least one sensor in the portable device incorporating the electronic compass configured in the portable device, so as to effectively detect and verify a temporary abnormal magnetic field caused by a stylus movement. When the electronic compass detects an abnormal magnetic field, the operation status of the sensor is checked for any change existence. If the operation status of the sensors changes, the abnormal magnetic field is verified as a temporary magnetic filed due to the movement of the stylus, in which case the electronic compass passes the calibration and goes on detecting the geomagnetic field according to its default setting value.

A detachable adapter is provided for being detachably connected to a data bus of a receptacle of a portable device to form a portable system. One or more sensors in a portable electronic device have individual status parameter in response to different using configurations. When the portable electronic device operates in a first using configuration, an electronic compass in the portable electronic device loads a corresponding first default setting, according to the status parameter of the sensors operated in the first using configuration, and detects the geomagnetic field for outputting azimuth data. When the portable electronic device changes its configuration from the first using configuration to a second using configuration, the electronic compass stops detecting the geomagnetic field and loads a corresponding second default setting, according to the status parameter of the sensors operated in the second using configuration, and detects the geomagnetic field for outputting azimuth data. The electronic compass is capable of properly detecting the geomagnetic field by loading different default settings when facing interference of different magnetic fields.
