Board-to-board connector assembly

A connector adapter for electrically receiving a card connector having a shielding, comprises an insulative body portion defining a mating face and a soldering face adjacent to the mating face. A plurality of contacts are received in passageways defined in the body portion between the mating and soldering faces. A concave surface is defined in a top face of the body portion opposite the soldering face and forms two hook devices upwardly extending therefrom symmetrical about a central line of the body portion. A metal cover forms an elastic tab on a central portion thereof and two holes symmetrical about the elastic tab for engaging with the hook devices thereby fixing the metal cover to the top face of the body portion. A reception space is defined between the metal cover and the concave surface for receiving the shielding of the card connector.

Connector adapter

A board-to-board connector assembled with an elongate cover, includes a housing forming a mating face, a soldering face, and a longitudinal channel in the mating face. The cover includes a central connecting portion having a pair of resilient arms perpendicularly extending from each lateral end thereof, a flat second surface for attachment of a vacuum nozzle, and a plurality of serially connected extension portions outwardly extending from the lateral ends of the connecting portion. A plurality of grooves are defined on both sides of the cover between each adjacent extension portions, whereby a predetermined number of extension portions can be readily removed to accommodate connectors of different size. After the connector is accurately aligned and soldered onto a mother board, the cover is removed from the connector so that a daughter board can be received in the channel.

Electrical connector with cover

A memory card connection device includes an upper card connector stacked on a lower card connector. The card connectors have a rear connector section from which two guide racks extend toward a front card receiving port thereby defining therebetween a first space sufficient for accommodating a type I or type II memory card. A single cover plate is positioned on and fixed to the upper card connector. The cover plate has a low level section directly fixed to the rear connector section of the upper card connector and a high level section positioned above the guide racks and connected to the low level section by a riser panel thereby forming a step-like configuration. The high level section of the cover plate is distant from the upper card connector thereby defining a second space therebetween in communication with the first space of the upper card connector thereby defining an enlarged overall space for receiving a type III memory card without interfering with the lower card connector. The cover plate has two spaced extensions rotatably supporting door panels thereon associated with the card receiving ports. The door panels are spring-biased for exposing/blocking the card receiving ports.

Memory card connection device

An electrical connector having retaining device comprises a dielectric housing defining a mating face. At least a pair of standoff extend downward from an under face of the housing for mounting on a printed circuit board. The housing defines a longitudinal groove extending along the mating face. A plurality of terminals each has its contacting portion protruding from an inner wall of the groove. Each terminal has its soldering leg extending beyond the under face. A pair of retaining device mount onto the printed circuit board adjacent transverse ends of the housing. The retaining devices jointly define a receiving a receiving slot for an electrical module. Each the retaining device includes a plate portion defining a supporting face and an under face opposite the supporting face. At least a mounting pad extends downward from the under face of the plate portion for mounting on the printed circuit board. A wall portion extends vertically from an edge of the plate portion for guiding the electrical module when the module inserts to the slot. This wall portion also has retaining recess that engages a portion of an inserted electric module. A locking device securely attaching the plate portion to the printed circuit board.

Electric connector having module retaining device

An adapter for connecting a card connector to a mother board consists of a dielectric housing having a front face proximate the card connector and a bottom face proximate the mother board, and a metallic shielding covering a top face, a rear face and side walls of the housing. A number of contacts are fixedly received in the housing and extend from the front face to the bottom face. The contacts are electrically engaged with contacts of the card connector. A top portion of the shielding is engaged with a shielding of the card connector. The shielding of the adapter further forms a plurality of grounding tabs extending between tail portions of selected contacts of the adapter, thereby reducing cross-talk therebetween.

Adapter for connecting a card connector to a printed circuit board

An electrical connector includes a first insulative housing and a second insulative housing. Each housing has two lugs formed on opposite ends thereof corresponding to each other. Each lug defines a recess having a support face formed therein. Two locking members bridge between the first and second housings and engage with the lugs thereby securing the housings together to form the connector. Each locking member has a base section and two retention sections formed on opposite ends thereof. The retention sections of the locking member are received in the corresponding recesses of the housings. Each retention section has a resilient barb engaging with the corresponding support face. Preferably, each retention section has an inclined edge for facilitating insertion into the corresponding recess.

Electrical connector

A board adapter for electrically transmitting signals between an electrical card connector and a mother board, includes a plurality of signal traces formed on both faces of the board adapter for electrically connecting signal holes with corresponding conductive pads. The signal holes respectively receive the corresponding contacts of the card connector. The conductive pads electrically engage with corresponding contacts disposed within a receiving slot defined in a card edge connector when the board adapter is inserted therein and stabilizing means ensures proper engagement therebetween. The stabilizing means comprises a cutout defined on a bottom edge of the board adapter and a post formed in the receiving slot of the card edge connector. The engagement between the cutout and the post ensures that the conductive pads of the board adapter are properly aligned with the contacts of the card edge connector.

Board adapter

A board-to-board electrical connector assembly consists of a plug connector connected to a daughter board and a receptacle connector connected to a mother board. The receptacle connector has a first housing with a top face connected to the mother board and a bottom face connected to the plug connector, a pair of metal shields mounted to a front and rear face of the first housing, respectively, and a number of contacts fixedly received in contact passageways of the first housing. Each metal shield is integrally formed with two lateral sections each including an upper solder pad soldered to a grounding circuit of the mother board, and a leg covering a corresponding lateral wall of the first housing and defining an engaging foot. The plug connector has a second housing, a number of contacts fixedly received in contact passageways of the second housing and two second solder pads fixed to lateral ends of the second housing. The second solder pads are soldered to a grounding circuit of the daughter board and connect with the engaging feet of the shields.

Electrical connector assembly

A shielding device for covering a card bus connector includes a first metal plate including an engaging binding for engaging with a front face of the card bus connector, and a second metal plate including a clip formed by two tabs on opposite sides of the second metal plate for engaging with two sides of the card bus connector. The first metal plate and the second metal plate fully cover a top surface and a bottom surface of the card bus connector, respectively.

An ejector mechanism for use in a card connector comprises a guiding arm defining a channel and a reception cavity in communication with the channel. A push bar is slidably received in the channel and in an intermediate portion thereof defines a slot and a cutout narrower than and communicating with the slot thus forming a first digit confronting and spaced from a second digit by the cutout. A spring device includes a first section firmly enclosing the first digit and a second section loosely enclosing the second digit and the spring device is retained in the reception cavity of the guiding arm. A lever device has a driving end connected to one retaining end of the push bar thus when the push bar slides in the channel of the guiding bar the lever device is driven by the push bar to force the card connector to eject a memory card. The spring device is compressed upon a push on the push bar for ejecting the memory card and the spring device reverts to force the push bar back to its original position upon release of the push.

Ejecting mechanism and a connector using the same

An electrical card connector for electrically connecting an exterior electrical card to a circuit board, comprises an insulative housing body and a multi-stroke ejector means wherein the housing body includes a mating surface electrically connected with the electrical apparatus, and the ejector means includes an actuator for providing a manual operation, a lever having an operating end for joining with the actuator and an opposed acting end for pushing the inserted electrical apparatus, and a pair of symmetric supporting surfaces formed above the housing body and defining a shortest distance therebetween to be a linear contour which is parallel to the mating surface of the connector, so that the lever can respectively abut against and pivot upon the pair of symmetry supporting surfaces in the same radians to provide different force arms for satisfying the requirement of different forces for accurately drawing the electrical card from the connection with the contacts of the connector or completely ejecting the electrical card out.

Electrical card connector with multi-stroke ejector means

A card ejection mechanism for a card connector including a guiding frame, a rear actuating arm, a spring for urging the rear actuating arm rearward, a front actuating arm, and a follower pivotably connected to the rear actuating arm. The guiding frame has an inner space, a positioning groove within the inner space, and a channel. The rear actuating arm is slidably received in the inner space between a forward and a rearward stagnation positions. The front actuating arm is slidably received in the channel and has a front end adapted to operate a card ejection plate. The follower has a projection extending into the positioning groove and is moveable together with the rear actuating arm along the positioning groove to actuate the front actuating arm in a controlled manner. In one configuration where the rear actuating arm is in the forward stagnation position, an actuation of the rear actuating arm moves the rear actuating arm to the rearward stagnation position without ejecting a card inserted in the card connector. In another configuration where the rear actuating arm is in the rearward stagnation position, a manipulation of the rear actuating arm may move the rear actuating arm along a specific part of the guiding groove from the rearward stagnation position to the forward stagnation position again without ejecting a card inserted in the card connector.

Card connector

A pair of board-to-board connectors (10, 30) including a receptacle connector (10) and a plug connector (30). The receptacle connector (10) includes an insulative first housing (12) having a plurality of first passageways (14) for receiving a corresponding number of first contacts (16) therein, respectively. Each first contact (16) is of a resilient bellow type and the distal end (22) thereof abuts against the butting wall (26) of the housing (12) for pre-loading consideration, thus controlling the contact gap for mating. The plug connector (30) includes an insulative second housing (32) having a plurality of second passageways (34) for receiving a corresponding number of second contacts (36) therein, respectively. Each second contact (36) is of a stiff stick type and the distal end (42) thereof abuts against the side wall (44) of the housing (32) for confronting the mated corresponding first contact (16). A pair of lateral projections (48, 50) are formed at either end of each housing (12, 32) for protecting the tails of (20, 40) the contacts (16, 36) therebetween.
