An agent installed on a server reclaims one or more reclaimable off-site copy storage volumes and one or more reclaimable on-site copy storage volumes. To this end, the agent identifies each reclaimable off-site copy storage volume, runs a plurality of threads to collectively copy each data object of the identified reclaimable off-site copy storage volume(s) that is stored within one or more primary storage volumes to one or more one on-site target copy storage volumes, identifies each reclaimable on-site copy storage volume, and runs the plurality of threads to collectively transfer each data object of the identified reclaimable on-site copy storage volume(s) to the on-site copy target copy storage volume(s).

Provided are a method, system, and article of manufacture wherein a set of communication paths between a plurality of data movers and a plurality of storage devices is maintained. A request to transfer data from a source storage device to a target storage device is received, wherein the source storage device and the target storage device are included in the plurality of storage devices. At least one data mover from the plurality of data movers is selected based on the set of communication paths, wherein the selected at least one data mover can transfer the data from the source storage device to the target storage device.

Disclosed are a method, a storage management system, an article of manufacture comprising a computer readable medium, and a computer program product for saving a recovery plan file for a storage management server. The storage management system has a plurality of storage management servers at sites remote from one another coupled by a server-to-server infrastructure. A recovery plan file is saved for one of the storage management servers at one of the sites by establishing the server as a source for its recovery plan file. Another storage management server at a site remote from the source server site is established as a target for the recovery plan file. The source server transmits the source recovery plan file from the source server to the target server at the remote site over the server-to-server infrastructure. The source recovery plan file is managed at the target server according to defined criteria, for placement, backup, migration and expiration under the control of the source server.
