A method for controlling a permanent magnet (PM) synchronous motor in an ESP application is provided. A load angle of the PM motor is estimated. A voltage adjustment value is determined for the PM motor based at least on the estimated load angle of the PM motor. A voltage to be applied to the PM motor is determined based on the voltage adjustment value.

This disclosure is directed to initiating adjustment of an operation associated with an underwater drilling system, which may include receiving at least one underwater image; identifying the reference object in the at least one underwater image, wherein a position of the reference object is fixed relative to an underwater borehole or an underwater cloud; determining a first parameter associated with the reference object; identifying the underwater cloud in the at least one underwater image; determining a second parameter associated with the underwater cloud; adjusting the second parameter associated with the underwater cloud based on the first parameter associated with the reference object; and initiating an adjustment of the operation associated with the underwater drilling system based on the adjusted second parameter associated with the underwater cloud.

Systems and methods for initiating adjustment of an operation associated with an underwater drilling system

In accordance with disclosed embodiments, a power conversion system and method are provided. The power conversion system comprises a main power source configured to deliver drive power to a load and an add-on power module. The add-on power module comprises an isolated DC/DC converter and a low voltage source coupled in series with a high voltage source. The add-on power module is coupled to the main power source and the load and configured to output boost power to the load. The power conversion system further comprises a controller coupled to the main power source and the add-on power module, wherein the controller is configured to: determine that the load requires power from the main power source, and if so, direct boost power from the add-on power module to the load; and direct drive power from the main power source to the load when boost power falls below a predetermined threshold.

In accordance with presently disclosed embodiments, a hybrid power conversion system and method are provided. The hybrid power conversion system integrates multiple power sources. An isolated DC/DC converter manages power transfer between the power sources and the DC/DC converter and the power sources are connected such that a full power rating converter is not required. One of the power sources may comprise one or more battery strings, which may be selectively coupled to a DC/AC inverter. In one embodiment, the battery strings may be connected to a lead acid battery. Based on controller instructions, the isolated DC/DC converter replaces the power flow of the lead acid battery with the battery strings. In another embodiment, one or more battery strings may be selectively connected in series with a photovoltaic (PV) panel providing power to a load. When connected to the load, each of the battery strings may provide an incremental step up in power, boosting PV panel power. The number of battery strings that connect to the load at any given time may be based on the power provided by the PV panel and the power requirements of the load.

Disclosed embodiments are directed to a technique to remove DC offset from current measurement signals through shunt resistors in digital signal processing for current reconstruction when using discontinuous pulse width modulation (DPWM). Such measurements regarding current are pertinent to a feedback loop used for a system including a DC-link capacitor, inverter, and motor. A method of removing DC offset comprises: determining a three-phase output current signal of an inverter, wherein the inverter is coupled to a motor and a power supply; producing a voltage signal based on the three-phase output current signal and the resistances of one or more shunt resistors disposed in the inverter; applying an analog gain circuit to the voltage signal; processing the voltage signal with an analog-to-digital converter (ADC); applying a DC offset corrector to the voltage signal; and performing current reconstruction on the voltage signal to produce a continuous current signal.
