An active matrix display where in one embodiment each cell comprises: a driving circuit for providing current to light emitting devices placed in the cell under the control of a data driver signal, a first light emitting device location connected to the driving circuit and a second light emitting device location connected in series to the first light emitting device location. A first thin-film transistor (TFT) is connected in parallel with the first light emitting device location and a second TFT is connected in parallel with the second light emitting device location, its gate node connected to the gate node of the first TFT. One terminal of a third TFT is connected to the gate nodes of the first and second TFTs and selectively connects a control signal to the first and second TFTs under the control of a scan driver signal. The control signal determines which of a first or second light emitting device placed in the cell emits light when the driving circuit provides current.

Display with redundant light emitting devices

A display comprises a matrix comprising a plurality of N rows divided into a plurality of M columns of cells, each cell including a light emitting device; a scan driver providing a plurality of N scan line signals to respective rows of said matrix, each for selecting a respective row of the matrix to be programmed with pixel values; and a data driver providing a plurality of M variable level data signals to respective columns of the matrix, each for programming a respective pixel within a selected row of the matrix with a pixel value. A pulse driver provides a plurality of N driving signals to respective rows of the matrix, each driving signal comprising successive sequences of pulses enabling the cells to emit light according to their programmed pixel values during respective sub-frames of successive frames to be displayed. The data driver is arranged to provide variable level data signals to respective pixels within a selected row of the matrix during a limited number of sub-frames of a frame, the variable data levels corresponding to a programmed value of a plurality of bits of a pixel value for a frame. The data driver is further arranged to provide data signals to respective pixels within a selected row of the matrix during a remaining number of sub-frames of a frame, the data signals each corresponding to a programmed value of a single bit of a pixel value for a frame.

Display using analog and digital subframes

Described herein are ILED displays including redundancy in micro-light emitting diode (micro-LED) dies and methods of manufacturing the ILED displays. A micro-LED die emits light of a particular wavelength. The redundancy is added during manufacturing if defective micro-LED dies are identified. Additional micro-LED dies are included in inoperable sub-pixel assemblies to repair the inoperable sub-pixel assemblies that are identified to include defective micro-LED dies. An ILED display therefore includes at least one repaired sub-pixel assembly that includes two defective micro-LED dies and an operable micro-LED die that are coupled to separate branches of a current path from a current source.

Redundant pixel architecture in ILED displays

An active matrix display wherein each cell comprises: two thin-film transistors (TFTs) connected in series, the first TFT having its drain connected to a high supply line and the second TFT having its source connected to a low supply line. Gates of the first and second TFTs are selectively connected to respective first and second data driver signals under the control of a scan line signal. A storage capacitance is connected to a node joining the first and second TFT. A driving TFT has a gate connected to the joining node and is connected to drive a light emitting device with a bias current. In one embodiment, the first and second TFTs are sized relative to one another and the first and second data driver signal voltages are related proportionally, so that the data driver signals and the bias current are related to one another by a function substantially independent of a threshold voltage of the driving TFT.

Display with cell voltage compensation

A display includes a source driver, a demultiplexer, a first data line, a second data line, a first pixel and a second pixel. The demultiplexer includes a first pixel signal transmission unit and a second pixel signal transmission unit. The first pixel signal transmission unit includes a first sub-pixel signal transmission unit, a second sub-pixel signal transmission unit and a third sub-pixel signal transmission unit. The first sub-pixel signal transmission unit and the second sub-pixel signal transmission unit share a drain. A second pixel signal transmission unit next to the first pixel signal transmission unit includes a fourth sub-pixel signal transmission unit, a fifth sub-pixel signal transmission unit and a sixth sub-pixel signal transmission unit. The fourth sub-pixel signal transmission unit and the fifth sub-pixel signal transmission unit share another drain.

A method of forming a photo sensor includes the following steps. A substrate is provided, and a first electrode is formed on the substrate. A first silicon-rich dielectric layer is formed on the first electrode for sensing an infrared ray, wherein the first silicon-rich dielectric layer comprises a silicon-rich oxide layer, a silicon-rich nitride layer, or a silicon-rich oxynitride layer. A second silicon-rich dielectric layer is formed on the first silicon-rich dielectric layer for sensing visible light beams, wherein the second silicon-rich dielectric layer comprises a silicon-rich oxide layer, a silicon-rich nitride layer, or a silicon-rich oxynitride layer. A second electrode is formed on the second silicon-rich dielectric layer.

Optical touch device and method of forming photo sensor

The present invention provides a photo sensor, a method of forming the photo sensor, and a related optical touch device. The photo sensor includes a first electrode, a second electrode, a first silicon-rich dielectric layer and a second silicon-rich dielectric layer. The first silicon-rich dielectric layer is disposed between the first electrode and the second electrode for sensing infrared rays, and the second silicon-rich dielectric layer is disposed between the first silicon-rich dielectric layer and the second electrode for sensing visible light beams. The multi-layer structure including the first silicon-rich dielectric layer and the second silicon-rich dielectric layer enables the single photo sensor to effectively detect both infrared rays and visible light beams. Moreover, the single photo sensor is easily integrated into an optical touch device to form optical touch panel integrated on glass.

Photo sensor, method of forming the same, and optical touch device

A touch panel includes a plurality of active pixel sensors arranged in an array to sense a touch event. Each sensor element includes a photo-sensing element coupled to a single amplifier. The sensor element is arranged to provide a sensing voltage indicative of a light level received by the photo-sensor in a sensing period. The sensing voltage is amplified by the amplifier into an output voltage in the sensing period. Following the sensing period, the output voltage and the sensing voltage are reset to a predetermined voltage level. Following the reset period, the photo-sensor as well as the amplifier is disabled for a period so that the sensing level is caused to drop below the predetermined voltage level.

Active pixel sensor and method for making same

The present invention relates to a memory circuit integrated in each pixel of a display device includes a switching circuit and a memory unit. The switching circuit includes a first transistor having a gate configured to receive a switching control signal, a source and a drain electrically coupled to a liquid crystal capacitor of the pixel, and a second transistor having a gate configured to receive a switching control signal, a source electrically coupled to a storage capacitor of the pixel, and a drain electrically coupled to the liquid crystal capacitor. The memory unit is electrically coupled between the source of first transistor and the storage capacitor. The switching control signal is configured such that in the normal mode, the first transistor is turned off, while the second transistor is turned on, so that the storage capacitor is electrically coupled to the liquid crystal capacitor in parallel and the memory unit is bypassed, and in the still mode, the first transistor is turned on, while the second transistor is turned off, so that the storage capacitor controls the memory unit to supply a stored data to the liquid crystal capacitor.

Display device having memory in pixels

A display device having slim border-area architecture is disclosed. The display device includes a substrate, a plurality of data lines, a plurality of gate lines, a plurality of auxiliary gate lines and a driving module. The substrate includes a display area and a border area. The data lines, the gate lines and the auxiliary gate lines are disposed in the display area. The driving module is disposed in the border area. The gate lines are crossed with the data lines perpendicularly. The auxiliary gate lines are parallel with the data lines. Each auxiliary gate line is electrically connected to one corresponding gate line. The data and auxiliary gate lines are electrically connected to the driving module based on an interlace arrangement. Further disclosed is a driving method for delivering gate signals provided by the driving module to the gate lines via the auxiliary gate lines.

Display device having slim border-area architecture and driving method thereof

A multiplex gate driving circuit includes plural driving modules. In comparison with the prior art, each driving stage of the driving module has less number of transistors. From the first to the seventh example, each driving stage is implemented by only four transistors. In the eighth example and the ninth example, each driving stage is implemented by only two transistors. In other words, the driving stage of the multiplex gate driving circuit has less number of transistors, thereby reducing the layout area of the invisible zone of the LCD panel.

A liquid crystal display having pixel data self-retaining functionality includes a gate line for delivering a gate signal, a data line for delivering a data signal, a control unit for providing a first control signal and a second control signal, a data switch, a voltage-control inverter, a liquid crystal capacitor, and a pass transistor. The data switch is utilized for inputting the data signal to become a first data signal according to the gate signal. The voltage-control inverter is utilized for inverting the first data signal to generate a second data signal furnished to the liquid crystal capacitor according to the enable operation of the first control signal. The pass transistor is used for passing the second data signal to become the first data signal or for passing the first data signal to become the second data signal according to the second control signal.

Liquid crystal display having pixel data self-retaining functionality and operation method thereof

A display apparatus and a data read-out controller thereof are provided. The display apparatus comprises a touch display module, a first data read-out controller, and a second data read-out controller. Each of the first and the second data read-out controllers comprises a first read-out switch, a second read-out switch, a first sampling unit, and a second sampling unit. According to the time division multiple output operated by the first sampling units, the first read-out switches, the second sampling units, and the second read-out switches of the first and the second data read-out controllers, the number of the output points and power loss can be reduced effectively.
