A piezoelectric motorization system has a mechanically flexible body that has one or more surfaces for placing piezoelectric actuators. The system has groups of piezoelectric actuators each positioned on one of the surfaces of the mechanically flexible body that is connected to the electronic circuitry. The electronic circuitry controls the driving of the mechanical loads by the mechanically flexible body by injecting sets of control signals into different groups of actuators positioned on the mechanically flexible body. Each control signal operates groups of driving frequencies with an adjustable amplitude ratio and an adjustable phase difference among driving frequencies. And, under a set of boundary conditions exhibited by a set of structural dimensions of the mechanically flexible body, each control signal induces multi-mode resonance of the mechanically flexible body for driving the mechanical loads multi-dimensionally.

Piezoelectric apparatus for motorization

A piezoelectric patch sensor for measuring muscle movement of contraction and extension is disclosed. The sensor is elongated and directly attached to a skin site of a user for the measuring via an interface circuit connected to a host processor. The piezoelectric patch sensor has an adhesive layer with an adhesive bottom surface for firmly attaching to the skin site. An elastic sheet is integrated on top of the adhesive layer. A piezoelectric thread is further integrated on top of the elastic sheet and has a bundle of aligned piezoelectric fibers. The thread is electrically coupled to the interface circuit via a pair of conductive wires, forming a piezoelectric measurement circuitry. Muscle movement under the skin site shrinks or extends the piezoelectric patch sensor in its entirety along the direction of muscle movement due to a corresponding shrinking or extending movement of the skin firmly attached to the adhesive layer. Thus results in the piezoelectric fibers in the measurement circuitry generating a corresponding signal, which is relayed by the interface circuit to the host processor for calculating to derive the muscle movement.

Piezoelectric patch sensor

A motion sensing system utilizing piezoelectric laminates with predetermined surface electrode patterns disposed thereon utilizes a frequency selector to pass motion waves of predetermined frequencies and an electrical circuit for processing the electrical signals for transmission to an activating device for appropriate activation. In particular, the frequency selector is a low frequency bandpass filter for free-fall acceleration wave frequencies. By directing appropriate action, the present invention increases the applicability of the device upon which it is mounted (e.g., for military or other hostile environment use), decreases the possibility of damage, and lengthens its useful life.

Piezoelectric laminate motion sensing apparatus and method

Augmenting surface electrodes for piezoelectric workpieces together with the method for fabrication are disclosed for improving fabrication and operation reliability of the workpieces. A piezoelectric workpiece used for energy conversion between electrical and mechanical forms in a piezoelectric system comprises a body, a number of function electrodes, and at least an augmenting surface electrode. The body of piezoelectricity is used for implementing the energy conversion. The function electrodes are each fixedly attached to the surface of the body, and are connected in the electric circuit for implementing the energy conversion. At least one of the function electrodes has a shape with a contour of at least one acute angle. At least an augmenting surface electrode has a substantially elongated shape fixedly attached to the surface of the body proximate to the acute angle. Together, the augmenting surface electrode and the proximate function electrode thereof constitute a gross electrode that substantially cancels the acute angle when both are connected electrically to the same electric potential. The acute angle is cancelled during the polarization of electric dipoles of the body grain molecules so that the boundary region between different polarization orientation distribution regions can be smoothed. The reliability of the piezoelectric workpiece is improved both during the fabrication and during normal operation of the workpiece.

Augmenting surface electrode for piezoelectric workpiece

A piezoelectric transducer apparatus comprises at least one piezoelectric unit and a body structure. Each of the at least one piezoelectric unit has a piezoelectric block and at least one pair of electrodes. Each electrode is adhered to one surface of the piezoelectric block. Each of the at least one piezoelectric unit is adhered to the surface of the body structure with the electrode exposed externally. The transducer apparatus has a generalized sensor equation which can be modeled in a fourth-order partial differential equation mathematical system. At least one of the electrodes or the piezoelectric block of each of the at least one piezoelectric unit has a shape matched to a desired body strain pattern existing in the body structure wherein the electrode of each of the at least one piezoelectric unit may excite a strain pattern in the body structure that is the same as the desired body strain pattern. The body structure of any structural configuration may have a resolved electrode shape that results in the disengagement of the phase and gain characteristics of the piezoelectric construction based on that particular body structure.

Piezoelectric transducer apparatus having independent gain and phase characteristics functions of the fourth-order partial differential equations

An innovative piezoelectric transducer apparatus having a piezoelectric workpiece with a modal-shaped actuator electrode for converting an input energy of one form into an output energy of another form. The piezoelectric workpiece comprises an actuator section and a sensor section. The actuator section is formed in the piezoelectric workpiece and has a modal-shaped electrode for exciting the piezoelectric workpiece into mechanical vibration upon driven by the input energy. The sensor section is also formed in the piezoelectric workpiece and has a sensor electrode for delivering the output energy to an external load of the apparatus by picking up the energy generated by the excitation. The modal-shaped actuator electrode has a shape function defined by the mathematical solution function of the governing equation of the piezoelectric workpiece under the condition that the piezoelectric workpiece being vibrating in a selected resonant mode.
