A method for saving electrical power for a physical layer (PHY) device including a plurality of sub-circuits is disclosed. The method includes the steps of outputting a plurality of link pulses, asserting a plurality of disabling signals between two adjacent link pulses for disabling the sub-circuits, respectively, and deasserting the disabling signals for enabling the sub-circuits, respectively. The disabling signals are asserted separately for disabling the sub-circuits at different time points. A physical layer device for use in a chip for saving electrical power is also disclosed.

A switching power regulator for performing DC-to-DC conversion may be implemented with a soft-start circuit configured to ensure orderly power-up of the switching power regulator by controlling the maximum output current delivered to a load while maintaining proper voltage regulation during start-up. The soft-start circuit may use combinations of reference voltages generated by a reference voltage digital-to-analog converter and a programmable width burst-pulse to control an output voltage of the switching power regulator during start-up without requiring external components. The soft-start circuit may provide burst-pulses directly to a drive circuit configured in the switching power regulator to control the output voltage of the switching power regulator, thereby beginning to ramp up the output voltage of the switching power regulator from zero volts. A specified number of clock cycles after the output voltage has reached a specified value, the soft-start circuit may switch control of the drive circuit from the burst pulses to regular PWM or PFM operating modes.

Soft-start circuit for a DC-to-DC converter

This invention discloses a receiver and a signal compensation method therefor. An adaptive equalizer and a baseline wander compensator are provided on the front end of the receiver to improve the quality of output signals. The signal compensation method enables the adaptive equalizer to use a long T as its observation unit when the transmission cable is idle, and enables the baseline wander compensator for operation and controls both the adaptive equalizer and the baseline wander compensator to use a short T as its observation unit when the transmission cable is transmitting data signals. The disclosed adaptive equalizer can achieve its optimal processing effects, and the efficiency of the baseline wander compensator can be increased.

Receiver and the compensation method therefor

This invention discloses an adaptive equalizer disposed on the front end of a receiver to improve the quality of a transmission signal comprising a data signal from a transmission cable. The signal compensation of the adaptive equalizer uses a long T as its observation unit when the transmission cable is idle, and uses a short T as its observation unit when the transmission cable is transmitting data signals. This invention further discloses a baseline wander compensator worked with the adaptive equalizer during the transmitting data period of the transmission cable. The disclosed adaptive equalizer can achieve its optimal processing effects.
