A smart insect collection device comprising: a trapping device; a sensing device having a through opening in fluid connection with the trapping device; a processing unit to receive electrical signals from the sensing device; and a collecting module comprising: a selection plate having at least one through hole configured to engage an opening of a collection container for collection of insects therein, the sensing device provided between the trapping device and the selection plate, the selection plate movable between at least one non-collecting position and at least one collecting position; and a controller in communication with the processing unit and with a motor provided to move the selection plate, the controller programmable to activate the motor to move the selection plate to the collecting position in response to the processing unit identifying an insect passing through the through opening to be an insect of a predetermined kind for collection.

Smart insect collection device

There is provided a β-peptido sugar-copolymer having the structure of formula (I) as defined herein, or a stereoisomer, a tautomer, an N-oxide, a hydrate, a solvate, or a salt thereof, or a mixture of the same. There is provided a process to make the β-peptido sugar-copolymer as defined herein. There are further provided medical applications of the β-peptido sugar-copolymer as defined herein. In a preferred embodiment, a block-like copolymer poly(amido-D-glucose)-block-poly-β-(L)-homolysine (PDGu-b-PBLK) synthesized via anionic ring-opening polymerization (ROP) demonstrates an antimicrobial efficacy, an enhanced selectivity towards different bacteria, biocompatibility vs. mammalian cells and spontaneous assembly.

This invention relates to an insect detection device comprising a sensing device. The sensing device comprises an optical source configured to emit an optical beam; a first lens group configured to collimate the optical beam to form a beam width of a first predetermined range and a beam height of a second predetermined range; a second lens group configured to collect the optical beam from the first lens group and arranged apart from the first lens group defining a sensing zone; an optical detector configured to receive the beam from the second lens group and translate the beam to electrical signals; and a processing unit configured to switch on the optical source and receive the electrical signals from the optical detector.

Smart insect monitoring and identification device

The present invention relates to a method of forming a particulate porous metal oxide or metalloid oxide, as well as uses of the obtained a particulate porous metal oxide or metalloid oxide. A solution of a non-ionic surfactant and either an ionic surfactant or an inorganic salt is formed in an acidic aqueous solution. A metal oxide precursor or a metalloid oxide precursor is added. The formed reaction mixture is heated under reflux upon agitation for a period sufficient to obtain a particulate porous metal oxide or metalloid oxide.

Method of forming a particulate porous metal oxide or metalloid oxide

A microelectromechanical system (MEMS) device, method of operating the MEMS device, and a method of forming the MEMS device are provided. The MEMS device includes a positioning mechanism and a locking mechanism. The positioning mechanism includes a first arm structure having a first surface and a second surface; a second arm structure having a first surface and a second surface; wherein the first surface of the first arm structure faces the first surface of the second arm structure. The positioning mechanism also includes a first actuator disposed adjacent to the second surface of the first arm structure facing away from the second arm structure; and a second actuator disposed adjacent to the second surface of the second arm structure facing away from the first arm structure. The locking mechanism includes a first pair of locking elements arranged such that each locking element is disposed at two opposite side surfaces of the first arm structure between the first and second surfaces of the first arm structure; and a second pair of locking elements arranged such that each locking element is disposed at two opposite side surfaces of the second arm structure between the first and second surfaces of the second arm structure. The first and second pairs of locking elements are configured to engage with and disengage from the first and second arm structures respectively.
