A light-emitting diode (LED) includes a substrate, an epitaxial structure, and an electrode structure. The epitaxial structure includes a first semiconductor layer, an active layer and a second semiconductor layer that are sequentially disposed on the substrate in such order. The electrode structure includes electrodes that are respectively disposed on the first and second semiconductor layers opposite to the substrate. Each electrode has an upper surface that is opposite to the first and second semiconductor layers. The electrode structure also includes an insulating unit that is disposed in each electrode, and that is not exposed from the upper surface of the corresponding electrode.

Light-emitting diode

A flip-chip light-emitting diode includes an epitaxial structure including a first semiconductor layer, an active layer and a second semiconductor layer that are sequentially disposed on one another in such order. The epitaxial structure is formed with first holes and second holes respectively at a first region and a second region that are independent from each other. Each of the first and second holes extends through the second semiconductor layer and the active layer, and partially exposes the first semiconductor layer. A surface of the first semiconductor layer exposed by the first holes has a total area smaller than a total area of a surface of the first semiconductor layer exposed by the second holes.

Flip-chip light-emitting diode

A light emitting device includes a substrate, a light emitting unit disposed on the substrate, a metallic electrode unit, a metallic adhesion layer disposed on the first and second electrodes of the electrode unit, and a protective layer disposed on the adhesion layer. The first electrode is disposed on a portion of a first-type semiconductor layer of the light emitting unit. The second electrode is disposed on a second-type semiconductor layer of the light emitting unit disposed on a separated portion of the first-type semiconductor layer. The first and second electrodes are partially exposed by the protective layer and the adhesion layer that is partially exposed by the protective layer. A production method for the light emitting device is also disclosed.

Light emitting device and production method thereof

A patterned sapphire substrate has a first surface and a second surface opposite to each other; the connection zone between first protrusion portions has no C surface (i.e. (0001) surface); and the patterned sapphire substrate may have no C surface on the growth surface to reduce the threading dislocation density of the GaN epitaxial material on the sapphire substrate.
