A rack for storing a plurality of spools with elongated strips wound therearound comprises a box-like frame including a pair of parallel spaced plates; a plurality of partitions, each of which has on one of its surfaces a support axle for rotatably and releasably holding the spool; and means for releasably fastening the partitions in a parallel spaced relation to each other between the plates. The rack further includes elongated lock plates which have slots and notches formed in and arranged at uniform intervals longitudinally of the elongated lock plates. The lock plates are attached to the rack by pins protruding through the slots for slidably holding the lock plate to a front surface of the rack.

A method of and apparatus for manufacturing slide fasteners of selected product lengths from an elongate continuous stringer chain, the method comprising selecting predetermined fastener component parts from among a plurality of such respective component parts which differ in type, form, material and color, feeding and applying the selected parts one at a time to the stringer chain. A method of and an apparatus for manufacturing slide fasteners from an elongate stringer chain are disclosed, the method comprising metering the starting stringer chain to provide different prospective product lengths of slide fasteners and maintaining a provisional inventory of the thus metered stringer chain in advance of gapping the stringer chain.

A slide fastener overturning conveyer includes an elongate hollow rectangular guide member having a guide channel for the passage of a slide fastener, and air nozzles disposed adjacent to an inlet of the guide channel and directed toward an outlet of the guide channel. The guide member is rotatably movable about its longitudinal central axis through an angle of 180 degrees for overturning the slide fastener while the latter is received in the guide member. The air nozzles eject a compressed air to convey the overturned slide fastener. The angular movement of the guide member and the compressed-air ejection are controlled by a sensor provided for detecting leading and trailing ends of the slide fastener. The overturning conveyer thus constructed is relatively small and simple in construction and is effectively operative even when a slide fastener is relatively long.

Slide fasteners are fed longitudinally one at a time along a path by at least one stream of air flowing along the path, and are then introduced into a clearance or gate which is narrow enough to prevent the passage of sliders so that when the slide fasteners have respective sliders, they are stopped at the gate, while when the slide fasteners have no sliders, they are allowed to pass through the gate and be further advanced by the stream of air. Thus the slide fasteners are automatically sorted or separated into two groups according to the presence of the sliders. Thereafter, the stream of air is interrupted whereupon the slide fasteners stopped at the gate are allowed to fall from the path into a container disposed below the gate. The slide fasteners thus fallen are disposed in the container in juxtaposition.

Method of and apparatus for sorting slide fasteners

A number of elongate articles such as slide fasteners are discharged from a discharging mechanism and placed on a length of a band web which has been supplied from a reel on a bundle tray by means of a feed mechanism. The length of the band web has a free end and an opposite end gripped by a gripper mechanism. End portions of the length of the band web are ultrasonically fused to each other by a fusing mechanism constituted by an ultrasonic horn and an anvil. The opposite end of the length as it is gripped by the gripper mechanism is cut off by a cutter mechanism to form a band bundling the elongate articles, which are then discharged by the bundle tray.
