Autonomous driving of a vehicle in which computerized perception by the vehicle, including of its environment and of itself (e.g., its egomotion), is used to autonomously drive the vehicle and, additionally, can also be used to provide feedback to enhance performance, safety, and/or other attributes of autonomous driving of the vehicle (e.g., when certain conditions affecting the vehicle are determined to exist by detecting patterns in or otherwise analyzing what is perceived by the vehicle), such as by adjusting autonomous driving of the vehicle, conveying messages regarding the vehicle, and/or performing other actions concerning the vehicle.

A method for performing active distance measurements, the method may include receiving or generating an identification of at least one target object recognized in an image; emitting, by a transmission module, one or more light pulses towards the at least one target object; directing, by an optical multiplexer of a reception module, towards at least one detector, at least one reflected light pulse that is reflected from the at least one target object; detecting, by at least one detector of the reception module, the at least one reflected light pulse; dynamically coupling, by an electrical multiplexer, the at least one detector to at least one distance measurement unit; calculating, by the one or more distance measurement units, a distance to each one of the at least one target object based on the at least one emitted light pulse and the at least one reflected light pulse.

System and method for performing active distance measurements

An active sensor for performing active measurements of a scene is presented. The active sensor includes at least one transmitter configured to emit light pulses toward at least one target object in the scene, wherein the at least one target object is recognized in an image acquired by a passive sensor; at least one receiver configured to detect light pulses reflected from the at least one target object; a controller configured to control an energy level, a direction, and a timing of each light pulse emitted by the transmitter, wherein the controller is further configured to control at least the direction for detecting each of the reflected light pulses; and a distance measurement circuit configured to measure a distance to each of the at least one target object based on the emitted light pulses and the detected light pulses.

Apparatus for acquiring 3-dimensional maps of a scene

A perception system, comprising a set of reference sensors; a set of test sensors and a computing device, which is configured for receiving first training signals from the set of reference sensors and receiving second training signals from the set of test sensors, the set of reference sensors and the set of test sensors simultaneously exposed to a common scene; processing the first training signals to obtain reference images containing reference depth information associated with the scene; and using the second training signals and the reference images to train a neural network for transforming subsequent test signals from the set of test sensors into test images containing inferred depth information.

Methods and systems for training and validating a perception system

Managing a change in a physical property of a vehicle due to an external object

A system and method for generating a high-density three-dimensional (3D) map are disclosed. The system comprises acquiring at least one high density image of a scene using at least one passive sensor; acquiring at least one new set of distance measurements of the scene using at least one active sensor; acquiring a previously generated 3D map of the scene comprising a previous set of distance measurements; merging the at least one new set of distance measurements with the previous set of upsampled distance measurements, wherein merging the at least one new set of distance measurements further includes accounting for a motion transformation between a previous high-density image frame and the acquired high density image and the acquired distance measurements; and overlaying the new set of distance measurements on the high-density image via an upsampling interpolation, creating an output 3D map.

Method and system for generating multidimensional maps of a scene using a plurality of sensors of various types

A method and control system for optimizing active measurements are presented. In an embodiment, the method includes emitting at least one active signal in at least one direction; determining whether a return signal is detected for each of the at least one active signal; upon detecting at least one return signal for the at least one active signal: measuring a strength of each return signal; comparing the measured strength of each return signal to at least one optimal return signal strength; and determining, based on the comparison, an optimized configuration for active measurement emissions in one or more directions.

System and method for optimizing active measurements in 3-dimensional map generation

A method and apparatus for generating 3D-maps for acquiring three-dimensional (3D) maps are presented. The method includes analyzing at least one image acquired by a passive sensor to identify a plurality of objects in the at least one image; classifying the plurality of objects; determining, based on the classification, whether to passively measure a distance to each of the plurality of objects; passively measuring the distance to at least one of the plurality of objects based on the determination; actively measuring a distance to some of the plurality of objects, wherein the distance to one of the same of the plurality of objects is actively measured when the distance to the object cannot be passively measured; and generating a 3D map of a scene based on the distance measured to each of the plurality of objects.

Generating 3-dimensional maps of a scene using passive and active measurements

A method, comprising: obtaining an image data of a physical object; the physical object comprises a plurality of markers positioned on the outer surface of the physical object; analyzing, using a computer, the data, to identify visual markers information indicative of at least some of a plurality of markers; determining an orientation and a location of the physical object in response to predefined attributes of the plurality of markers and to the visual markers information.

Method for translating the location, orientation and movement of a predefined object into computer generated data

The present invention relates to a system and method for providing 3D imaging. The system comprises: a) two or more cameras for allowing to generate stereoscopic information only for selected regions in a common or coincident field of view captured simultaneously by both of said two cameras, in order to provide distance measurements information to object(s) located in said selected regions; b) at least one 3DLR module for providing 3D image, wherein said two cameras and said 3DLR module are positioned in such a way that, at least partially, they will be able to capture similar or coincident field of view information; and c) a processing unit for generating said 3D imaging according to said stereoscopic information and said 3D image by using image processing algorithm(s) in order to provide 3D imaging information in real-time.
