The present invention provides a solder plating system with automatic monitoring of wash fluid pressure. The system automatically activates an alarm and/or initiates shutdown of a solder plating machine when the pressure reading indicates a failure of the wash fluid supply. The system thereby reduces the number of parts that are affected by failures in the wash fluid supply system. In some cases, problems with the wash fluid supply are detected before any parts are affected.

A system and method for a remote calling system for an automatic guided vehicle is disclosed herein. The remote calling system is configured to receive a destination request from an operator located at a remote location. The remote calling system is further configured to check the availability of the automatic guided vehicle at each of the parking lots. When at least one automatic guided vehicle is available at a parking lot, the remote calling system transmits the destination request to that parking lot. The remote calling system utilizes a telephone communication system.

The present invention provides AGV systems with automatic recharging and a central processor for control. The central processor monitors the charge states of the AGVs, assigns them to tasks, and can determines when to recharge the AGVs. The central processor can optimize the operation of the AGVs to achieve various objectives which can include, for example, maximizing AGV availability, maximizing battery life, and/or maximizing recharging station utilization. Systems and methods of the invention can maximize the utilization of AGV equipment and minimize the number of AGVs required to accomplish a given set of tasks.

A method and apparatus are provided for fast and thorough inspection of tray stacks for misplaced ICs that is not susceptible to human error and prevents shipment of damaged ICs to users. Embodiments include an inspection apparatus, such as at a conventional strapping machine, comprising a number of photoelectric sensors near the corners of the trays of the stack. The sensors are moved, as by pneumatic cylinders, such that each sensor scans all of the trays in the stack, one tray at a time, while directing a beam of light at the tray and receiving a quantity of the light of the beam reflected from the stack. The received quantity of light is compared to an expected reference quantity of light corresponding to a tray without any misplaced ICs, and a signal is generated and sent to a processor based on this comparison. If the received quantity of light closely matches the reference quantity, a signal is sent to the processor indicating the tray has no misplaced ICs, and the processor enables the strapping operation. On the other hand, if the received quantity of light does not closely match the reference quantity, a signal is sent to the processor indicating a tray has a misplaced IC, and the processor generates an alarm signal, such as a red light, and disables the strapping operation. The operator can then correctly position the misplaced IC in its tray. The inspection procedure is then repeated, and the tray stack is strapped for shipping if no other misplaced ICs are found. Since performance of the strapping operation is prevented if a misplaced IC is found, damage to ICs incurred by strapping tray stacks with misplaced ICs, such as bent leads, is eliminated, and shipment of damaged ICs to customers is prevented.

Method and apparatus for inspection of misplaced integrated circuits in a tray stack

A method and apparatus are provided for transferring packaged integrated circuits (&ldquo;ICs&rdquo;) from one JEDEC standard tray to another without manual handling of the ICs. Embodiments include a pick and place system for moving ICs from a first tray to a second tray, such as x and y axis stepper motors, motor drivers and a head for picking up and placing the ICs by vacuum. The pick and place system is controlled by a processor, such as a personal computer, that receives instructions from an input device, such as a keyboard, monitor and/or mouse. A first tray of ICs to be batched and a second tray to which the ICs are to be transferred are brought to the system. The operator enters, via a user-friendly graphical display, data relating to the package to be transferred, the quantity of devices to be transferred, and the positions of the devices in the trays. The processor then controls the pick and place system to transfer the inputted quantity of devices from the first to the second tray based on the device positional information entered by the operator. Since there is no manual handling of the ICs, damage to the devices, such as bent leads, is eliminated, as is misorientation and miscounting of devices.

A draw bar clamping locking mechanism for locking and unlocking rapidly a draw bar mounted on the front end of a trolley to the rear end of an automatic guided vehicle. The locking bar mechanism includes a locking bar which is moveable rotatably between a locked position where the draw bar is received in a U-shaped slot and an unlocked position where the draw bar is disengaged from the U-shaped slot. A release paddle is provided for unlocking and releasing rapidly the draw bar from the U-shaped slot when depressed downwardly.

The present invention provides systems and methods that reduce the number of mis-routed trolleys in an AGV system. The invention provides a solenoid driven automatic coupling for coupling a trolley to an AGV. When an AGV arrives at a particular preprogrammed destination, as determined for example by track patches read by the AGV, the AGV system switches the solenoid power causing the automatic coupling to free the trolley to disengage from the AGV. The AGV may then pull away from the trolley, leaving the trolley at its programmed destination. The system substantially eliminates the risk of a trolley not being uncoupled prior to the AGV's departing from the trolley's intended destination.
