A winding apparatus comprises a core jig having a circular outer circumference, plate-shaped stator core jigs designed to have a shape corresponding to stator cores, and holding jigs to be detachably installed to the outer circumference of the core jig for holding the stator core jigs. Accordingly, the plurality of divided stator cores can be subjected to winding quickly and easily. It is possible to perform an efficient winding operation.

Rocker arms are assembled by providing a plurality of holder members in series at a predetermined pitch and rotatably supporting the rocker arms by shafts which are supported by the plurality of holder members. First, rocker arm units are assembled by inserting into the rocker arms shafts which are longer than a distance between facing side surfaces of two pieces of the adjoining holder members. Then, the rocker arm units are set into spaces between respective holder members which are provisionally set at a distance which is larger than the predetermined pitch. This setting is made such that the axial line of the rocker arm shafts coincides with axes of bearing holes which are formed in the holder members. Then, the distance between the holder members is narrowed down to the predetermined pitch to thereby insert end portions of the rocker arm shafts into the bearing holes.

An apparatus for assembling workpieces in which an assembling work is performed includes a workpiece setting jig, a setting station including a workpiece setting apparatus for setting a first workpiece on the workpiece setting jig, an assembling station including an assembling unit for assembling a second workpiece with the first workpiece on the workpiece setting jig, a welding station including a welding unit for welding the first and the second workpieces together, a discharging station including a discharging unit for taking the welded workpieces out of the workpiece setting jig, a charging station provided in a position which faces the setting station as seen in the direction of sending and withdrawing the workpiece setting jig. The method of assembling workpieces includes disposing the charging station in a position facing the setting station, and disposing the charging station, the assembling station, the welding station, and the discharging station in a circular form to a side of the setting station.

A phase adjusting apparatus for use in an assembling machine for assembling first and second workpieces including a movable frame which is arranged to move into and out of the space formed between the two workpieces. Prior to coupling the two workpieces, the movable frame is moved to enter the space and a first movable table and a second movable table on the movable frame are used to adjust the phase of a rotary body on the first workpiece and the phase of a rotary shaft on the second workpiece to another. After removing the movable frame from the space, the two workpieces are then brought together so that the rotary body and the rotary shaft are coupled to each other.
