A method of relocating the header compression context in a packet network which transmits packets having compressed headers. A connection is established between a mobile terminal and a first network entity and context information used with compression and decompression of the headers of the packets is stored at the mobile terminal and the first network entity. The context information updating is stopped in the mobile terminal and in the first network entity and after that, a snapshot of the compression and decompression context information is taken and stored in the first network entity. The connection between the first network entity and the mobile terminal is changed to a connection between the mobile terminal and a second network entity. The context information snapshot stored by the first network entity is transferred to the second network entity to be stored therein as the context information of the second network entity. The stored context information at the mobile terminal and the second network entity is then used for compression and decompression of the headers of the packets.

Relocating context information in header compression

The exemplary embodiments of this invention generally relate to message header-type notification that, for example, enables the co-existence of a legacy header type with one or more new header types on a same radio link. In one non-limiting, exemplary embodiment, a method includes: determining a type of medium access control (MAC) header to transmit in a MAC transmission; setting a value of a notification field in a resource allocation message based on the determined type of MAC header; and transmitting the resource allocation message. In another non-limiting, exemplary embodiment, a method includes: receiving a resource allocation message having a notification field; and using a value of the notification field to determine a type of medium access control (MAC) header for a MAC transmission.

A method for compressing information in a communication system is provided. The method includes compressing first address data in a first packet stream by using second address data included in a second packet stream.

Compressing header data

Various example embodiments are disclosed herein. According to an example embodiment, a technique may include allocating periodic resources to a mobile station in a wireless network for transmission of voice data, receiving from the mobile station an indication of a start of a silence period, and adjusting, based on the receiving of the indication of a start of silence period, the allocating of the periodic resources from a size and period of resource for the voice data to a size and period of resource for a silence indication (SID) frame. Alternatively, in response to receiving an indication of a start of silence period, the allocating of periodic resources for the VoIP voice data may be temporarily stopped during the silence period.

An apparatus comprising a controller configured to pack a plurality of Service Data Units (SDUs) from a plurality of connections associated with a Mobile Station (MS) into a single Medium Access Control (MAC) Protocol Data Unit (PDU). Various embodiments are described relating to wireless networks, such as quality of service (QoS) request and information distribution for wireless relay networks. According to an example embodiment, a technique or method may include receiving a QoS-related message at a relay station in a wireless relay network. The QoS-related message may include one or more QoS parameters for a flow. The method or technique may also include retrieving, at the relay station, the QoS parameters from the QoS-related message to use the QoS parameters subsequently for admission control and/or scheduling for the flow. According to one general aspect, a method may include collecting at least one Mobile Station (MS) Medium Access Control (MAC) Packet Data Units (PDUs), associated with at least one Mobile Station. In various embodiments, the method may also include generating at least one MS station identifier (STID) sub-header (MSID-SH), indicating for each MS MAC PDU (MPDU) a MS STID that is associated the respective MPDU. In some embodiments, the method may include packing the MSID-SH and the at least one of MPDU into a single Relay MAC PDU (RPDU). Addressing scheme for a relay network system

A method for saving power, at a mobile terminal, includes receiving a call, at a network entity, wherein the call contains information relating to transmission of the call from the network entity to the mobile terminal. The mobile terminal operates in first and second communications networks, which are different. The mobile terminal detects coverage of the first communications network and activates a first interface corresponding to the first communications network. The mobile terminal can also deactivate the first interface and activate a second interface corresponding to the second communications network while the mobile terminal is located in both the first and second communications networks. The mobile terminal can then enter a low power consumption mode supported by the second communications network. The mobile terminal can also deactivate the low power consumption mode and activate the first interface to communicate with the first communications network when a call is delivered via the first communications network.

Embodiments of these systems and methods provide a single block acknowledgement for multiple traffic identifiers in data communication with a communication station. One method includes providing a multiple start sequence number corresponding to each traffic identifier of a plurality of traffic identifiers and providing a bit map corresponding to each multiple start sequence number. The bit map indicates a block acknowledgement of packets corresponding to one traffic identifier of the plurality of traffic identifiers.

Various example embodiments are disclosed relating to relay networks or multi-hop networks, and also relating to bandwidth allocation for relay networks. According to an example embodiment, a method of allocating bandwidth in a relay network may include receiving at a relay station a first code (e.g., a first CDMA code) from a first station (e.g., mobile station) via a first link, sending a second code (e.g., second CDMA code) from the relay station to a second station (e.g., a base station) via a second link in response to receiving the first code, the second code being one of a plurality of codes assigned to the relay station, and receiving a bandwidth allocation message at the relay station from the second station, the bandwidth allocation message including the second code and indicating an allocation of bandwidth for a transmission over at least one of the first link and/or the second link.

Bandwidth allocation for relay networks

The present invention provides an enhanced H-ARQ scheme that optimizes bandwidth utilization and spectrum efficiency. When an H-ARQ attempt is unsuccessful due to loss or error over a hop between the BS and MS/SS, then only the first node in the hop chain that fails to decode the packet transmits another H-ARQ attempt. The BS determines the first node that fails on decoding based on certain information such as the feedback information sent from the nodes on the path. The previous node of the failed node is then instructed to retransmit by the BS.
