A self-curing coating composition comprising a polymer containing hydroxyl groups, carboxylic acid groups and acid groups comprising sulfonic acid groups and/or phosphoric acid groups is disclosed. Methods for applying the coating to a substrate and packages coated with the compositions are also disclosed.

Self-curing coating compositions

A coating composition comprising a polyester resin binder and a phosphatized polyester. The compositions are useful for coating containers such as food and beverage containers. The compositions have excellent hydrolytic stability upon storage at high temperature. The compositions are formulated to be substantially free of bisphenol A (BPA) and bisphenol A diglycidyl ether (BADGE).

The present invention is directed to coatings that provide improved retort and tropical decay resistance for use on metal food containers. The coatings generally comprise a carbamated polyol formed by the reaction between a polyol, an alkylene oxide and an alkyl carbamate. A crosslinker reactive with the carbamate functionality is used to react with the carbamate moiety. Methods for improving retort resistance and resistance to tropical decay are also disclosed, as are substrates coated with the present compositions.
