A director plate retainer of a fluid injector includes an outer wall which is annular in shape and which extends from an outer wall first end to an outer wall second end and which is centered about an axis. The director plate retainer also includes a lateral wall which is annular in shape and which extends toward the axis from a radially outer extent, which is proximal to the outer wall, to a radially inner extent, which is distal from the outer wall. The director plate retainer also includes an inner wall which is annular in shape and which extends from an inner wall first end, which is proximal to the lateral wall, to an inner wall second end, which is distal from the lateral wall, the inner wall extending along the axis in a direction that is opposite from the outer wall.

A fuel pump includes a fuel pump housing made of stainless steel and having a pumping chamber therewithin, a plunger bore extending thereinto, an inlet passage extending thereinto, and an outlet passage extending thereinto. A pumping plunger reciprocates within the plunger bore such that an intake stroke of the pumping plunger increases volume of the pumping chamber and a compression stroke of the pumping plunger decreases volume of the pumping chamber. An outlet valve controls fuel flow from the pumping chamber out of the fuel pump housing. The outlet valve includes an outlet valve seating surface formed by the fuel pump housing within the outlet passage such that a nitrided layer extends from the outlet valve seating surface into the fuel pump housing. The outlet valve also includes an outlet valve member within the outlet passage which is moveable between a seated position and an unseated position.

A fuel pump includes a fuel pump housing with a pumping chamber; a pumping plunger which reciprocates within a plunger bore; and an inlet valve assembly. The inlet valve assembly includes a check valve member which is moveable between an unseated position which provides fluid communication between the pumping chamber and a fuel supply passage and a seated position which prevents fluid communication between the pumping chamber and the fuel supply passage; and a solenoid assembly which includes a wire winding; a pole piece; an armature which is moveable between a first position when the wire winding is not energized and a second position when the wire winding is energized; a return spring which biases the armature away from the pole piece; and a control rod which is moveable along the inlet valve axis independently of the armature.

A pulsation damper is disposed within a fluid volume defined by a fluid volume wall such that the pulsation damper is exposed to pressure pulsations within the fluid volume. The pulsation damper includes a pulsation damper first half having a first damper wall which is flexible in response to the pressure pulsations; a pulsation damper second half having a second damper wall which is flexible in response to the pressure pulsations; and a damping volume defined between the pulsation damper first half and the pulsation damper second half such that the damping volume is fluidly segregated from the fluid volume. One of the pulsation damper first half and the pulsation damper second half defines a spacing member which maintains separation between the fluid volume wall and one of the first damper wall and the second damper wall.
