A housing for use with a ballast for powering one or more fluorescent lamps. In a preferred embodiment, the housing includes a cover (48) and a base (10). The cover (48) has at least two fingers (80), where each finger (80) includes a mating portion (86). The base (10) has at least two corresponding finger ports (100), each with a guide-lock structure (102) for guiding insertion of the mating portion (86) of the finger (80) into the finger port (100) and for securely locking the finger (80) in place when the mating portion (86) is inserted into the finger port (100).

An arrangement for securing a power transistor (4, 6, 8) or like component which is inserted into a printed circuit board (2) in a vertically downward direction. The printed circuit board is housed in a housing (20, 60) whose lower part (20) has upstanding walls (24, 26) with pairs of vertical slots (4A & 4B, 6A & 6B, 8A & 8B). Spring clips 52 are inserted vertically downwardly so that their legs (52A, 52B) engage in the slots and their center portions (54) urge the transistors toward the upstanding walls so that the housing acts as a heat sink for the transistors, obviating the need for additional components. Also, since all insertion is performed vertically from above, assembly can be performed straightforwardly by an automatic insertion machine, resulting in more rapid assembly and increased reliability.

Securing component arrangement

A pressure sensor assembly (10, 10') is disclosed in which a pressure sensing element (11, 11', 11') is protected from external contaminants in an externally-applied pressure (P) to be sensed. This is accomplished by filling an external cavity (36) of a tubular portion (32) of a cover member (30) which fits over the pressure sensing element that has previously been mounted on a metallized substrate (14). The external cavity (36) is totally filled with an incompressibel liquid (35), such as silicon oil, and a thin diaphragm (40), preferably comprising a polyimide film, seals this external cavity and provides a compliant barrier between the externally-applied pressure (P) and the imcompressible fluid (35) and pressure sensing element (11). Chemical inertness of the diaphragm (40) and incompressible fluid (35) prevents contaminants in the sensed pressure (P) from attacking the pressure sensing element (11, 11', 11'), while transmitting changes in the sensed pressure (P) substantially directly to the pressure sensing element.

Pressure sensor assembly

A housing for a circuit board includes a top cover in which a plurality of apertures are formed for receiving wires which are to be bonded to a circuit board located beneath the top cover. Associated with each aperture is a specially formed wire gripper which provides strain relief for the wire which passes through the associated aperture.
