A vehicle and method of controlling the same are provided in which the performance of an electric motor is prevented from being degraded by efficiently and more accurately calculating the temperature of a permanent magnet within the electric motor to adjust the amount of power supplied to the electric motor. The vehicle includes an electric motor having a stator, a rotor, and a permanent magnet and a sensor that measures the temperature of the electric motor. An inverter drives the electric motor and a controller generates a predetermined heat quantity by supplying power to the electric motor to calculate the temperature of the permanent magnet based on the temperature of the electric motor at a predetermined point measured using the sensor. When the temperature of the permanent magnet exceeds a predetermined temperature, the controller reduces the supply of the power.

An apparatus for controlling a drive motor of a vehicle in which a wound rotor synchronous motor is mounted includes: an inverter which controls a stator current supplied to a stator of the drive motor and a rotor current supplied to a rotor of the drive motor; and a drive motor controller which controls the inverter such that the stator current and the rotor current are supplied to the drive motor when a temperature of the rotor is less than a threshold value, and only the stator current is supplied to the drive motor when the temperature of the rotor is greater than or equal to the threshold value.

An outer circumference surface temperature and an inner circumference surface temperature of the coil member are calculated by using radial conduction resistance using a temperature of an inner one side of the coil member. A vehicle includes: a motor including a stator and a rotor; an inverter configured to drive the motor; a battery, which is rechargeable; and a controller configured to change a position of the rotor based on whether the position of the rotor is identical to a predetermined position. An endothermic amount of the coolant flowing in the coolant chamber of the housing is calculated by using an average temperature of the housing and a preset equation.
