A battery system includes, a main battery, an inlet connected to an external charger through an outlet, a bidirectional on-board charger (OBC) configured to, in a charging mode, convert an AC power supplied from the external charger through the inlet to a DC power to charge the main battery, and in a discharge mode, convert a high voltage DC power discharged from the main battery to a low voltage DC power to supply the converted power to a load, and a relay configured to control an electrical connection between the bidirectional OBC and the inlet, and an electrical connection between the bidirectional OBC and the load.

According to an exemplary embodiment of the present invention, an apparatus for charging an auxiliary battery of a vehicle including a driving motor, includes: a driving distance detector detecting a driving distance of the vehicle; a timer detecting time lapsing from a specific time; a main battery SOC detector detecting a state of charge (SOC) of a main battery; an auxiliary battery SOC detector detecting an SOC of the auxiliary battery; and a controller operated by a program set to control an operation of a DC converter based on signals of the driving distance detector, the timer, the main battery SOC detector, and the auxiliary battery SOC detector.

Method and apparatus for charging auxiliary battery of vehicle including driving motor

A method for controlling an output of an LDC in an environmentally friendly vehicle is provided. The method includes determining whether the vehicle travels in the regenerative braking mode and when the vehicle does, transmitting a first slope signal to the LDC to increase an output voltage of the LDC that charges or discharges an auxiliary battery supplying power to an electric load using a high voltage battery. The first slope signal determines an upward slope of the output voltage of the LDC according to time as a first slope. When the vehicle does not travel in the regenerative braking mode and uses a high power electric load a second slope signal is transmitted to the LDC to increase the output voltage of the LDC. The second slope signal determines the upward slope as the second slope having a slope less than the first slope.
