A secondary battery capable of assembling a bare cell and a protective circuit module (PCM) in a manner of mechanical connection without performing a molding is provided. The secondary battery includes a bare cell whose top surface is provided with an electrode terminal having a polarity, a first case covering the top surface of the bare cell, a second case covering a first side surface of the bare cell, a first lead tab coupling the electrode terminal to the PCM, and a second lead tab coupling a surface of the bare cell having another polarity to the protective circuit module. Both of the first and the second lead tabs are covered by the first case.

Secondary battery

A rechargeable battery, and more particularly, a rechargeable battery having a function of detecting water contact. The area for detecting water contact is formed on the rechargeable battery or its component parts by applying water-soluble ink on a surface thereof. It is straightforward to form such a rechargeable battery and to easily determine whether the rechargeable battery or its component parts have been in contact with water.

The secondary battery includes: an electrode assembly, a can to house the electrode assembly, and a cap assembly to seal an opening of the can. Provided are a secondary battery that reduces space restriction during the formation of a protective circuit module (PCM) and improves reliability of a positive temperature coefficient (PTC) device and a method of fabricating the secondary battery. The secondary battery includes a battery cell including a cell tab and the PCM. The PCM includes a circuit board, a first terminal, a second terminal, and the PTC device. The circuit board includes an upwardly exposed external terminal. The first terminal is disposed below the circuit board and has one end connected to the cell tab and the extending other end. The second terminal is disposed below the circuit board and has one end connected to the external terminal and the extending other end. The PTC device is disposed between the first terminal and the second terminal and below the circuit board.

Secondary battery and method of fabricating the same

Disclosed is a pack type secondary battery that can be assembled by a simple process. The secondary battery comprises: a bare cell; a protection circuit module including a circuit board and a supporting member to combine the circuit board with the bare cell; and a top case covering the circuit board of the protection circuit module, where the supporting member of the protection circuit module is provided with a first coupling part and the top case is provided with a second coupling part combined with the first coupling part and the first coupling part of the supporting member is combined with the second coupling part of the top case by an interference fit method.

Disclosed is a lithium polymer battery, which includes: an electrode assembly; an outer case receiving the electrode assembly, where an electrode tab of the electrode assembly is withdrawn out of the outer case; a protection circuit module provided at one side of the outer case, where an inner connection terminal of the protection circuit module is connected to the electrode tab of the electrode assembly and provided in parallel to the withdrawn direction of the electrode tab. The lithium polymer battery can improve reliability and safety of an electrical coupling state between a bare cell and a protection circuit module and assembling workability between the electrode tab and connection terminals by mechanically and electrically coupling them to each other without bending the electrode tab.

Lithium polymer battery

A battery pack is disclosed. The battery pack includes at least two battery cells to provide a high capacity battery pack. The battery pack includes a single PCM assembly controlling at least two battery cells to decrease inferiority due to overcharge and overdischarge. Since a connector tab electrically connecting at least two battery cells to a single PCM assembly is provided, contacts are not separated during the swelling of the battery cells to prevent contact inferiority. A top case and a bottom case are provided to be coupled with at least two battery cells to maintain a secure coupling between the at least two battery cells.

A secondary battery having a compact design by using planar lead plates. In the secondary battery, a third lead plate is arranged on a top side of a protective circuit module, while the first and second lead plates are planar and are arranged on a bottom side of the protective circuit module. Therefore, a coupling height of a bare cell to the protective circuit module can be minimized to allow for an increased capacity of the bare cell. The protective circuit module may include an accommodation portion, such as a groove or a through hole, to accommodate a plug of an electrolyte injection hole in the cap plate.

An easily assembled pack type secondary battery. The secondary battery includes a bare cell, a protection circuit module having a circuit board and coupled with the bare cell, and a top case covering the circuit board of the protection circuit module and having a coupling slot into which at least part of the circuit board is fitted. The secondary battery allows the top case to be attached to the protective circuit module and the bare cell without having to use an adhesive and without requiring an injection molding technique.

A battery pack includes a battery cell including a cell tab, a protective circuit board including an internal terminal coupled to the cell tab and a positive temperature coefficient (PTC) device connected to the internal terminal, and a heat transfer member contacting the cell tab. The heat transfer member may be attached to the cell tab as well as the PTC device. Heat generated in the battery cell, the cell tab, and the internal terminal is quickly transferred to the PTC device through the heat transfer member to quickly interrupt current flow when the battery cell is exposed to high temperature. Therefore, the battery pack may have the improved stability and reliability.

A battery pack that can quickly transfer heat from a battery cell to a positive temperature coefficient (PTC) to quickly cut off a current when the battery cell is heated to a high temperature. A battery pack includes: a battery cell including a cell tab; a protective circuit module including an internal terminal connected to the cell tab, a PTC connected to the internal terminal, and an interconnection pattern between the internal terminal and the PTC and electrically connecting the internal terminal to the PTC; and a heat transfer member including a surface contacting the interconnection pattern, and opposite sides respectively connected to the internal terminal and the PTC.

A secondary battery includes a bare cell having a can, a cap plate on the can, and an electrode terminal protruding from the cap plate; a protection circuit module on the bare cell, the protection circuit module including a circuit board; a temperature sensitive device coupled to the circuit board; and a first lead plate electrically coupled to the circuit board and to the electrode terminal.
