At least one example is a method including: supplying a first bus voltage to a first device by way of a DC-DC converter coupled to a link voltage; supplying a second bus voltage to a second device by way of a second DC-DC converter coupled to the link voltage; converting an AC voltage to the link voltage by way of an AC-DC converter; selecting, by a shunt regulator, a setpoint for the link voltage based on the first bus voltage and the second bus voltage; and regulating the link voltage to the setpoint by the AC-DC converter.

Reduced voltage switching of a main switch in flyback power converters. Example embodiments are methods including: driving a primary current with a first polarity in a primary winding of a transformer, and a secondary winding of the transformer arranged for flyback operation; creating, by the primary current, a charge voltage on an auxiliary winding of the transformer; charging, by the charge voltage, a capacitance coupled to the auxiliary winding; ceasing the driving of the primary current and discharging an energy in a field associated with the secondary winding to provide an output voltage of the power converter; inducing a primary current with a second polarity in the primary winding by coupling the capacitance to the auxiliary winding; and reducing voltage across a main switch coupled to the primary winding, the reducing by the primary current with the second polarity.

Reduced voltage switching of a main switch in flyback power converters

Reduced voltage switching of a main switch in flyback power converters. At least some example embodiments are methods including: storing energy in a field associated with a secondary winding of a transformer, the secondary winding arranged for flyback operation within a secondary circuit of the power converter; charging a capacitor coupled to an auxiliary winding of the transformer; discharging the energy in the field associated with the secondary winding to provide an output voltage of the power converter; and when the electrical current flowing through the secondary winding reaches a predetermined low level reducing voltage across a main switch in a primary circuit of the power converter by coupling the capacitor to the auxiliary winding to create a voltage on a primary winding of the transformer.

A converter and a driving method thereof are disclosed. The converter includes a transformer, a main switch, a clamp switch, and a switching controller. Here, the switching controller controls a turn-on time of the main switch and a turn-off time of the clamp switch corresponding to an output load.

Converter and driving method thereof

A signal calculator includes a capacitor and a variable current source. The variable current source charges the capacitor and generates a current corresponding to a predetermined voltage during a first period. A first voltage is generated using a voltage of the capacitor charged during an enable period of a first signal in the first period, and a second voltage is generated using a voltage of the capacitor charged during the first period. The variable current source further generates a current corresponding to the second voltage during a second period. A second signal is generated according to a result of comparing the first voltage with the voltage of the capacitor during the second period, and a fourth voltage is generated by generating and sampling a third voltage which is increased according to a first current during an enable period of the second signal in the second period.

Signal calculator

A method for frequency reduction of a quasi-resonant (QR) converter includes detecting a valley point of a resonant waveform of the QR converter, by detecting a voltage level of the resonant waveform falling below a first threshold voltage. A blanking time is formed from the beginning of a QR conversion cycle to the valley point. The blanking time is extended in response to a first reduction of an output loading of the QR converter, while maintaining a primary current of the QR converter at a first current level. The primary current is reduced to a second current level being less than the first current level, while maintaining the blanking time at a maximum blanking time, in response to a second reduction of the output loading.

Advanced frequency reduction of quasi-resonant converters

One cable compensation circuit is connected to a shunt regulator to generate a feedback voltage corresponding to an output voltage of a power supply device. The cable compensation circuit controls cathode impedance of the shunt regulator according to the output current of the power supply device to compensate a voltage drop generated in a cable.

Examples of a signal calculator include a voltage multiplier and a time divider. The voltage multiplier copies time information corresponding to a first voltage and generates a third voltage using a second current corresponding to a second voltage during a first period corresponding to the copied time information. The time divider generates an output according to a result of comparing a voltage generated by a first current on the basis of a voltage corresponding to a first time with a second voltage corresponding to a second time.

Converter having a low conduction loss and driving method thereof

A vehicle charger includes a power supply device, a communication module, a reference changing unit, a compensator, a controller, and a gate driver. The power supply device changes an input voltage into a voltage required to charge a portable device and outputs the changed voltage. The communication module receives information on at least one of a voltage and a current, which are required to charge the portable device. The reference changing unit generates at least one of a reference voltage and a reference current based on the information on the at least one of the voltage and the current. The compensator generates a compensation signal based on a result obtained by comparing the at least one of the reference voltage and the reference current with at least one of a sensed voltage and a sensed current, which are obtained by sensing at least one of an output voltage of the power supply device and a current supplied from the power supply device to the portable device. The controller generates a gate driving signal according to the compensation signal. The gate driver generates a gate voltage for controlling switching operation of the power supply device according to the gate driving signal.

Vehicle charger

A primary side regulator according to an embodiment includes a power switch connected to a primary winding, a secondary winding configured to be insulated and coupled to the primary winding, a diode connected between the secondary winding and an output terminal, and an auxiliary winding coupled to the primary winding, and insulated and coupled to the secondary winding. The primary side regulator controls a switching operation of the power switch using a voltage obtained by filtering at least one of an estimation voltage signal corresponding to an output voltage of the output terminal and an estimation current signal corresponding to an output current flowing through the diode.

Primary side regulator

A power supply apparatus and a driving method thereof are disclosed. The power supply apparatus includes a first converter and a second converter. The first converter is operated to acquire a first gain when an input voltage is included in a first range or a second range that is lower than a first range and outputs a first output voltage and a second output voltage by converting the input voltage. In addition, the second converter is operated when the input voltage is included in the first range and outputs a third output voltage by converting the second output voltage.

Power supply apparatus and driving method thereof

A piezoelectric driving circuit and a driving method thereof are provided. The piezoelectric driving circuit drives a piezoelectric circuit by using a first driving switch connected to one end of a piezoelectric circuit, a second driving switch corresponding to the first driving switch and connected to the other end of the piezoelectric circuit, and a sensing resistor for sensing a current flowing in the piezoelectric circuit. A fire angle and a duty cycle of an upper switch are adjusted such that a peak of a sense voltage generated in the sensing resistor at a timing at which the first driving switch is turned on, in a state in which the second driving switch is turned on.
