A method and device for isolating a migratory cell population from a mixed population of migratory cells and non-migratory cells is described herein. The method comprises placing the mixed population of migratory cells and non-migratory cells in contact with a device having one or more microchannels; and isolating the migratory cell population within the microchannels following an incubation period, wherein the one or more microchannels have an average size in a proliferation direction of the migratory cells that is less than a minimum proliferation space of the migratory cells along the proliferation direction.

Devices and methods for isolating a migratory cell population

In one aspect, an apparatus for stimulating and/or monitoring a nerve is described herein. In some embodiments, the apparatus comprises a top substrate layer, a bottom substrate layer in facing opposition to the top substrate layer, and a channel disposed between the top substrate layer and the bottom substrate layer. The apparatus further comprises a plurality of electrodes disposed on one or more interior surfaces of the channel. Additionally, the channel is defined by the top substrate layer, the bottom substrate layer, and a retaining wall extending at least partially between the top substrate layer and the bottom substrate layer. The retaining wall retains the nerve within the channel.

Apparatus and method for nerve stimulation and/or monitoring

In one aspect, methods of detecting tumor cells are described herein. In some embodiments, a method of detecting tumor cells comprises providing a device, the device comprising a substrate surface and a plurality of first aptamer probes attached to the substrate surface. The method further comprises contacting a plurality of cells with the plurality of first aptamer probes attached to the substrate surface; adhering one or more of the plurality of cells to the substrate surface; and measuring a non-uniformity parameter, a Hausdorff distance, a change in the number of pseudopods, and/or a shape of at least one adhered cell. In some cases, the method further comprises using the non-uniformity parameter, Hausdorff distance, change in the number of pseudopods, and/or shape of the adhered cell to identify the adhered cell as a tumor cell or a non-tumor cell.

Methods of detecting tumor cells

A carbon nanotube (CNT) based electrode and method of making the same is disclosed. The CNT based electrode can have a microelectrode made substantially from a substantially inert metal, a first CNT sheet and a second CNT sheet, wherein the first and second CNT sheets are embedded in a collagen film.

Carbon nano tube based antennas

A regenerative interface electrode comprising a multilayer or sandwiched stack of dies that are oriented at their distal ends with at least one layer inset such that it forms a groove into which a nerve may be positioned inside the groove. The die layers include electrodes that connect to the nerve, allowing the nerve to be modulated. The electrodes in the die layers are connected to a PCB, which may communicate with a recording device. The distal end of the sandwiched die layers forming the groove is inserted into a nerve tube, into which the nerve is inserted.

Regenerative interface electrode

In one aspect, films that can serve as a model or mimic for the basal lamina are described herein. In some embodiments, a film described herein comprises a top surface and a bottom surface in facing opposition to the top surface, wherein the film is formed from Type I collagen and one or more additional extracellular matrix proteins. The additional extracellular matrix proteins, in some cases, comprise one or more of Type IV collagen, laminin, and fibronectin. Moreover, in some instances, the weight ratio of Type I collagen to the additional extracellular matrix proteins in the film is at least about 40:1.

Nano-scale biosensors

A scaffold for tissue regeneration is provided. In a preferred embodiment, the scaffold is implantable in a patient in need of nerve or other tissue regeneration and includes a structure which has a plurality of uniaxially oriented nanofibers made of at least one synthetic polymer. Preferably, at least 75% of the nanofibers are oriented within 20 degrees of the uniaxial orientation. The scaffold beneficially provides directional cues for cell and tissue regeneration, presumably by mimicking the natural strategy using filamentous structures during development and regeneration.
