An application information table (AIT) includes a set of application information which is associated with a particular broadcast application. The set of application information includes a first data field indicating whether the data broadcast application is a program-bound application. A digital broadcast transmitter transmits a digital broadcast signal including the application information table (AIT) to a digital broadcast receiver, which then reads the first data field included in the set of application information to determine a program binding status of the data broadcast application.

A broadcast signal includes an information table (EIT) or an application information table (AIT) which includes a descriptor. The descriptor includes image data representative of a thumbnail image to be displayed within an electronic program guide (EPG). A decoder decodes the EIT or AIT from a broadcast signal, and an application manager displays the thumbnail image within an EPG to indicate that a channel scheduled to carry a broadcast program is also scheduled to carry broadcast data simultaneously.

Broadcast signal and apparatus and method of decoding the same

Disclosed is a method of transmitting/receiving additional information. The method includes the steps of transmitting video, audio, trailer, and EPG(program guide) signals respectively having independent PIDs(packet identification numbers), receiving the transmitted signals and extracting the video, audio, EPG, and trailer signals from the received signals, displaying the extracted EPG, and displaying the trailer signal for a selected broadcast program of the EPG. Preferably, the trailer is displayed as a motion picture or still image. Accordingly, when the audience selects a specific program on an EPG screen, the present invention displays a summary or preview of the selected program. Therefore, the transmitting side such as a broadcasting station enables to inform the audiences of the corresponding program of the broadcasting station, and the audiences are helped to select programs through program previews or summaries.
