There are disclosed a general middleware bridge supporting an interoperability operation between devices on different middlewares and a method thereof. The general middleware bridge according to the present invention includes: a conversion rule collector collecting message conversion rules for an interoperability operation between different middleware devices; a conversion rule register registering the message conversion rules for each message type; and a message converter interconverting messages from the middleware devices on the basis of the message conversion rules and transferring the converted messages for each message type.

Provided are an apparatus and method for transforming an application for a multi-modal interface. The apparatus includes: a parsing means for parsing an original application to generate a parsed structure of the original application; an application transforming/creating means for transforming the parsed structure generated by the parsing means; a multi-modal synthesizing means for synthesizing the contents created by the application transforming/creating means with multi-modal information of the user terminal; a multi-modal detecting means for detecting multi-modal information received from the user terminal and transforming the detected information into contents that can be used by the device; and an action mapping means for mapping the contents, which are received from the multi-modal detecting means and can be used in the device, to action information contained in the original application to generate an event of the device according to the action information.

Disclosed is a method for dynamically mapping a physical/logical relationship between resources. Provided are a system and method for automatically setting up configurations of a home network. The system includes a setting information manager, placed within an individual home, for collecting and managing setting information associated with configurations of the home network. The setting information manager shares the setting information with a remote setting information management server or another setting information manager. Since customized setting information of an individual home is shared, setting information of home network configurations can be effectively managed, thereby reducing costs and efforts required for maintenance and repair of the home network.

Provided is a home-network UMB system and a method thereof for providing interoperability between devices connected one another through different types of middlewares in a home network. The home-network UMB system includes: a bridge core for establishing/releasing a connection between bridge adaptors of different types of middlewares and analyzing/transferring a universal middleware message in order to interoperate devices connected through different types of middlewares existed on a home network; and a plurality of bridge adaptor for connecting the bridge core to a corresponding middleware, and finding/releasing different types of devices, controlling/monitoring different types of devices and registering/creating an event for different types of devices through transforming a universal middleware bridge message to a local message of each middleware and vice versa.

A user interface apparatus, a device controlling apparatus and a method thereof are disclosed. The user interface apparatus includes: a button input unit for sensing activation of a button; a wireless communication unit for transferring a control message through a wireless network to control electronic appliances; and a controlling unit for sensing a button activation pattern, creating the control message with the button activation pattern and user information, and transmitting the control message to a device controlling apparatus through the wireless communication unit to control corresponding electronic appliances according to a time/environment based user pattern.
