A fuel cell system includes: a fuel cell stack for generating electrical energy by reacting oxidant and mixed fuel, and for discharging non-reacted fuel, oxidant, moisture, and carbon dioxide; a mixer for preparing the mixed fuel by mixing at least a portion of the non-reacted fuel, oxidant and moisture with concentrated fuel and for supplying the mixed fuel to the fuel cell stack; a fuel supply unit for supplying the concentrated fuel to the mixer; an oxidant supply unit for supplying the oxidant to the fuel cell stack; a first heat exchanger between an outlet of the fuel cell stack and the mixer; and a second heat exchanger between the mixer and an inlet of the fuel cell stack.

Fuel cell system

A power unit, a fuel cartridge, and a fuel cell system having the power unit and the fuel cartridge. The power unit includes a coupling unit to couple with the fuel cartridge. The coupling unit includes a nozzle that receives fuel supplied from the fuel cartridge, a selection key to selectively mate with the fuel cartridge, and an outer unit surrounding the nozzle. An end of the nozzle is located between the selection key and an end of the outer unit.

A fuel cell system and a method of operating the same, the fuel cell system comprising: a fuel cell including at least one unit cell; an switch having first and second ends connected to different type electrodes of the fuel cell; and a circuit unit to detect whether a load is applied to the fuel cell, to control the operation of the switch according to the detection, cycle the switch open and closed to short circuit the fuel cell, in order to prevent the fuel cell from overheating and to consume a residual fuel in the fuel cell. The fuel cell system may further include a converter, a secondary cell, a battery charger, and a switching unit between the load and the fuel cell.

Fuel cell system and method of operating the same

A fuel cell system includes: a fuel supply unit supplying a fuel; an air supply unit supplying air; a stack including a membrane electrode assembly (MEA) having an air path and a fuel path; a gas-liquid separator connected to an outlet of the fuel path and an outlet of the air path for separating gas-liquid into high-temperature liquid and moisture gas; a mixer mixing the high-temperature liquid separated by the gas-liquid separator and a fuel supplied from the fuel supply unit and connecting the gas-liquid separator and the MEA; a moisture absorbent connected to the gas-liquid separator to absorb condensed liquid in the high-temperature moisture gas; and a heat exchanger to vaporize the liquid absorbed by the moisture absorbent.

A fuel cell cartridge includes a fuel pouch to store fuel, the fuel pouch including a fuel outlet; a pressing unit to press the fuel pouch; a variable resistor provided near the fuel pouch; a sensor provided on the pressing unit to read a resistance value of the variable resistor; and a contact pad to transmit an output voltage determined by the resistance value outside the fuel cell cartridge.

Fuel cell cartridge having residual fuel measuring unit and method of measuring residual fuel of fuel cell system having the same

A fuel cell system having a fuel pressurizing system. The fuel cell system includes: a cartridge comprising a fuel storage pack; a main body; and a pressurizing unit disposed in the main body to pressurize the fuel storage pack when the cartridge is mated to the main body. The cartridge further includes a pressurizing plate to transmit pressure received from the pressurizing unit to the fuel storage pack when the cartridge is mated to the main body and to preventing the fuel storage pack from being pressurized when the cartridge is separated from the main body. The main body can include a case on which the fuel storage pack and the pressurizing plate are received.
