A plasma display apparatus is provided. Polygonal discharge cells are arranged in delta. Extension parts are extended from pairs of sustain electrodes that apply a voltage to the discharge cells to discharge spaces to face each other. Since the extension parts have at least one depressed parts, the efficiency of sustain discharge improves due to a long gap. Since the width of data electrodes formed under the discharge cells is large in the discharge spaces, a distance between the effective side surfaces of the pairs of sustain electrodes and the data electrodes is reduced so that the efficiency of address discharge improves.

Plasma display panel with improved brightness and color purity

A plasma display panel and a driving method thereof that are capable of improving the brightness and the discharge efficiency. In the plasma display panel, an auxiliary electrode pair causes an auxiliary discharge. An area of the auxiliary electrode at the periphery of a discharge cell is wider than that at the center of the discharge cell. A sustaining electrode pair is arranged at each side of the auxiliary electrode pair to cause a sustaining discharge by utilizing the auxiliary discharge. In the driving method, wall charges concentrate on the center portion of the discharge cell during an auxiliary discharge generated between the auxiliary electrode pair. Then, a sustaining discharge is generated between the sustaining electrode pair by utilizing the wall charges produced by the auxiliary discharge.

Plasma display panel and driving method thereof

The present invention relates to a plasma display panel for maintaining the light emission and enhancing the contrast. The plasma display panel of the present invention includes the first electrodes for receiving scan pulses, the second electrodes for receiving first sustain pulses and the third electrodes for receiving second sustain pulses. The black matrices are formed to cover the first electrodes. Thus, the first electrodes are used during resetting or addressing and the second electrodes and the third electrodes are use during sustaining so as to maintain the light emission and enhance the contrast greatly.

A plasma display panel that is adaptive for improving light-emission efficiency. In the plasma display panel, a plurality of electrode groups each has first and second electrodes formed adjacently to each other at an upper substrate and third electrodes having a large distance from the second electrodes. A plasma display panel and a driving method thereof is adaptive for realizing high efficiency. In the plasma display panel, a sustaining electrode pair and an address electrode are included in each discharge cell. A first dielectric layer covers the sustaining electrode pair. To induce a discharge of the sustaining electrode pair, a floating electrode pair is formed parallel thereto on the first dielectric layer. A second dielectric layer and a protective film cover the floating electrode pair. Accordingly, two auxiliary electrodes are provided between the sustaining electrode pair so that when a voltage is applied to the sustaining electrode pair, the voltage is driven into the auxiliary electrodes. A primary discharge is thus induced between said auxiliary electrodes at a low voltage and therefore a long-path discharge is induced between the sustaining electrode pair at a low voltage, even though they are distanced apart from each other.

A PDP minimizes a capacitance of phosphors by removing some of the phosphors of each discharge cell to maintain almost same discharge voltage level applied to discharge areas of each discharge cell. The PDP includes a plurality of lower electrodes successively formed on a first substrate in row direction, a plurality of isolation walls formed between the lower electrodes, a plurality of upper electrode sets successively formed on a second substrate opposite to the first substrate to cross the lower electrodes, and a phosphor formed on the first substrate to expose some of the lower electrodes crossed the upper electrode sets.
